I stumbled across a new-to-me author that I really enjoy: NYT bestselling author Marilyn Brant and her Mirabelle Harbor series. A sucker for a good romance, I was originally interested because the title reminded me of one of my faves, Grease (remember “You’re the one that I want, ooh, ooh, ooh, honey).

In this stand-alone novel, The One That I Want, I was introduced to Brant’s Mirabelle Harbor gang and enjoyed the peek into their lives. Julia lost her beloved husband in a car accident months ago and is raising their 10-year old daughter alone, both stumbling through their grief. Julia’s BFF, Sharlene, does what all great friends would do in this instance and encourages her to finally go out and meet some new friends. That one happy hour leads Julia into an interesting predicament.

Her old flame from high school sees her there and begins pursuing her; soon after, she hears about her teenage heartthrob in town for a performance and meets him in person; and finally, she she goes to her college reunion where she sees – you guessed it – her college boyfriend. Three men. One choice.

What I enjoyed the most about this read was seeing Julia fall into a relationship with the unthinkable – a movie star that she fawned over decades before. Think of all the Bop! Magazine posters that covered your wall in the 80s and having the chance to date one of those guys.

See how Julia finds her way out of this Bermuda Triangle. More info and ordering here
