Need a good place to eat after landing your private plane? Is there someone in your family who loves airplanes? Maybe you are just looking for a unique dining experience? Head over to Black Walnut Café located on the third floor of the Lone Star Executive Airport in Conroe and you won’t be disappointed. Lone Start Executive Airport is not only beautiful, but is also state of the art with a 7,500 foot runway to accommodate large planes. Soon it will also be able to accommodate international travelers, as they are about to break ground on an international terminal complete with customs and immigration. The airport offers concierge services, as well as hanger and office suite rentals. Most importantly, however, it is home to Black Walnut Café.

Black Walnut Café is a fast casual restaurant with counter service and an extensive menu. They are experts at breakfast and brunch, but serve everything from pasta dishes to great burgers. They even have a $100 burger that comes with a $100 gift card when you order it. The name comes from pilots who have to service their planes every once in awhile to keep them in working order. They take their planes out for a quick flight and grab a bite to eat. Once they have paid for the costs of fuel, etc. that quick bite to eat turned into a $100 meal – hence the “$100 burger.”

You certainly don’t have to pay $100 for a great meal at Black Walnut Café. The Black Walnut Salad is the most popular item on the menu for good reason. Grilled chicken, gorgonzola cheese, apples and walnuts on a bed of greens is the perfect light lunch for anyone.

Most items can be customized, including the Build Your Own Omelets – the list of toppings is huge and so are the portions. On my visit, I tried the Lobster Benedict which was cooked to perfection. The lobster pieces were very large, the bacon had great seasoning and the cayenne citrus hollandaise added the perfect saucy topping. The chipotle Chicken Pepper Pasta is another great menu choice. The sauce adds just the right amount of heat while the tortilla strips add a great texture. Don’t forget to order dessert – their cakes are the perfect sweet ending to any meal.

The restaurant is roomy and has spectacular views from their floor to ceiling windows. You can sit inside or enjoy the patio outside for an even closer view of planes taking off and landing. Take the kids with you; they won’t be disappointed with the view or the food. A meal at Black Walnut Café in Conroe is not just a meal, but a great dining experience.
