After the adrenaline rush that May brought us, Texans will be pleased to see that June has more variety. These are the movies to see in June. Whether you’ve got kids to entertain or need a good scare, the movie theater is where you’ll want to be this month.
Me Before You (PG-13) June 3
If it’s been awhile since you’ve seen a good chick flick, this will likely be a jackpot. Emilia Clarke, originally from Game of Thrones, takes the lead role in a romantic story of a bright-eyed young woman who takes a job as a caregiver for a wealthy young banker previously paralyzed in an accident a couple of years earlier. Long story short, this is your classic tale of happy go-lucky young woman who is put to the test when faced with a hard-hearted man with a chip on his shoulder. Time passes, and through her persistence he learns to lighten up, only to fall in love with the girl. The End. That may have saved you two hours, but take a date anyways.
Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping (R) June 3
Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone — a.k.a. The Lonely Island — bring about this unique film to the big screen. Much akin to the style of comedy that Samberg is known for, the story follows frontman Conner Friel, or Conner 4real, as he leaves the former rap group the Style Boyz. Now, with an ego equal to Kanye West, Friel decides to film a documentary on his life while he’s still on top, but when his album flops the camera is there to catch it all as his world comes crashing down. If you hated the idea of Justin Bieber having his own documentary, then this may be the film for you. It looks to be a humorous parody of the nonsense that’s all-to-often considered reality.
Warcraft (PG-13) June 10

Somewhere deep within the world of one of the most popular massively multiplayer online role-playing games is an intricate story of good versus evil. If you’re not familiar with the game, don’t fret. The realm of Azeroth is on the brink of war as its civilization faces an invasion of Orc warriors fleeing their homeland to recolonize elsewhere. From opposing sides, two heroes are on a collision course that will decide the fate of everything they hold dear. While World of Warcraft is rife with lore, for its cinematic much of that has been simplified to create a film that’s utilizes enough of the source material for true WoW fans to be satisfied, but generic enough that audiences unfamiliar with the game can still enjoy it.
Now You See Me 2 (PG-13) June 10
One year after outwitting the FBI and securing a spot in the hearts of audiences watching in wonder, the Four Horsemen have resurfaced in the pursuit of learning more about The Eye, only to find themselves faced with a new enemy who enlists them to pull off their most dangerous heist yet. With some nifty prestidigitation and a plot that will leave you scratching your head, you may want to watch this one twice to catch everything. With a very talented cast, and the blessing of world-renowned illusionist David Copperfield, this is definitely worth checking out.
The Conjuring 2 (R) June 10
Coming to theatres a little early for the Halloween season is another case from the true files of renowned demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren as they embark on a job in north London to help a mother of four handle a house plagued by malevolent spirits. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga bring the couple’s story back to life once more, and if you’re looking for something to keep you up at night, you’ve found it.
Finding Dory (G) June 17
Children and adults alike have been hoping for a sequel to 2003’s Finding Nemo, and more than a decade later their prayers have been answered in the form of Finding Dory. Not sure what the wait was for, but hopefully fans will be pleased. Progressive Texans may be pleased to find Disney Pixar’s first lesbian couple hidden in the film, but that has yet to be confirmed. Regardless of the romantic preferences of fish, children will love to see this tale of finding family with the help of friends.
Central Intelligence (PG-13) June 17
With Kevin Hart basically a sure shot at the box office for the time being and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson building up his chops on the big screen, Central Intelligence follows Bob (Johnson), a lethal CIA operative who bulked up after being bullied in school. Coming home for his high school reunion, Bob enlists the help of the once big man on campus, Calvin (Hart), claiming that he’s needed for a top-secret case. With his glory days long gone, Calvin accepts the mission not realizing what he’s getting into. This looks like it could be a good laugh for the family.
