Looking for something to do with the family this season? With Texas weather bringing snow and below-freezing temperatures across the state, a lot of normal options were a no go recently, but if you’re still suffering from cabin fever, New Braunfels has some fun options in the forecasts.

Go explore the wonders of caves and caverns in the area. There are plenty of adventures waiting for families and friends, including the largest caverns in the state, The Natural Bridge Caverns. Housing numerous cave formations and other unique geological features, the cave was discovered in the 1960s, but artifacts have been found dating back as far as 5,000 BC. The cave is ideal for touring all year long because it maintains a constant 70 degree Fahrenheit temperature. A half-mile tour takes you 180 feet below the ground to see awe-inspiring, ancient formations centuries in the making and still growing today – amazing stalagmites, stalactites, flowstones, chandeliers and soda straws. Lantern tours and Adventure tours allow you to experience it all just like the cavers who found it.

After exploring the caves, get lost in the AMAZEn’ Ranch Roundup. This maze experience was built to honor five generations of ranch ownership history in the Natural Bridge Caverns family and is entertaining for groups of all ages. Find your way through the maze and time yourself against your friends to see how well everyone does and keep a good competition going. There are three towers and a bridge to help you find your way, if you get lost. Find the checkpoints throughout the maze and have fun!

After all of this, relax in the car but keep the adventure rolling at the Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch. This real-life safari is home to more than 500 animals and has 400 acres of land for guests to drive through as animals come right up the the vehicles. Not to mention you can also take time to feed some animals at the petting barn or get up close with some of the exotic animals in the walk-about.

If you’re looking for more entertainment, head north to check out the Gruene Historic District. You won’t want to miss live music and dancing at Gruene Hall, the oldest dance hall in the nation. Live shows with Josh Abbott Band and a special New Year’s Eve with Kevin Fowler are just a couple of highlights recently, and The Peterson Brothers are right around the corner. While you’re in Gruene, don’t miss the opportunity to grab a piece of homemade fudge at Gruene General Store.

In New Braunfels, If you’re addicted to Instagram, then you’ll appreciate New Braunfels for the stunning panoramas including the Faust Street Bridge, Cypress Bend Park, Dry Comal Creek Winery, and Vintage Oaks’ Timber Ridge Park for some of the best vistas in the city, and some great photo opps — no filters necessary.
