Be sure to check out the John Dewar & Sons Traveling Whisky Emporium at Texas Trucklandia Fest this Saturday, October 21st. This immersive, one-of-a-kind tiny whisky house is stopping in Austin—naturally!—as a part of its cross-country adventure.

There’s something for everyone in the Traveling Whisky Emporium: quirky rounds of Chicken Bingo and custom classic Scotch eggs, created by Top Chef season six winner Michael Voltaggio, and served by iconic local Austin food truck legend, The Peached Tortilla. Chef Voltaggio has designed the kitchen in the emporium, translating his creativity when it comes to plating into the décor of the traveling home – a sight not to miss!

While in the Emporium, guests will be treated to specially crafted Dewar’s 12 Blended Scotch Whisky cocktails and tastings of unique single malts, Aberfeldy and Craigellachie. Scotch expert and John Dewar & Sons North America Ambassador, Gabriel Cardarella will be on hand throughout the event to walk you through a tasting of the blends and single malts, highlighting the tasting notes and unique brand story of each.

Preparing for the arrival of the Emporium, we enjoyed a fun exchange with Cardarella, who told us there’s no right or wrong way to enjoy whisky. “Whether as a Dewar’s Dramble cocktail or Aberfeldy served neat, savoring those sweet honey notes, the most important part is that no matter how you take your whisky, you enjoy drinking it,” says Cardarella. Of course, added the Ohio native, always remember to enjoy scotch responsibly. It turns out that this tour aims to not only share Dewar’s award-winning single-malts and blends but to also honor Tommy Dewar, one of Dewar’s founders, combining all of his loves. “He was a bon vivant, raconteur and rambler who traveled around the globe to new adventures with his whisky in tow,” explains Cardarella.

Then there’s the Scotch eggs. Are they the Scottish equivalent of a deep-fried Twinkie at the Texas State Fair, we asked Cardarella. “I can’t speak to Texans love of deep-fried Twinkies, but I can say that – like the Scotch eggs – everything tastes better deep-fried,” he says. Tommy Dewar, it turns out, was also very proud of his award-winning show chickens.”Scotch eggs are the perfectly-paired bite while enjoying Scotch,” added Cardarella.
