Do you have loads of crafting projects pinned, fawn over cute gallery walls or have every episode of “Fixer Upper” set to record on your DVR?

If you answered “Yes!” to any of those questions then we’ve found the perfect crafting experience for you. And the best part is, Houston: You can bring your own wine and food to make crafting even more fun! The Rustic Brush combines everything about crafting into a fun couple of hours—and there is no need to worry about supplies or expertise.

“Rustic Brush is different because everyone can create their own project, while still enjoying the experience together. When you come in, you can select your own project and customize however you’d like. I think that is what people really like,” says Jacqui Hertlein, owner of Rustic Brush West University in Houston. “We are also here to help through every step of the project, so everyone can go home with something beautiful they have created.”

Want to try it out, but want to know what you are in for? We’ve put together a step-by-step pictorial of our Rustic Brush experience.

There are several projects to choose from on the Rustic Brush website, but we chose a round door hanger. Once the design and the wording are chosen, a stencil’s created and cut out electronically. Photo Gabi De la Rosa

Take the backing off the stencil. This step might take a couple of minutes. Be patient; you want to ensure that all parts come off smoothly.

Start dabbing with paint. You will use an up-and-down motion instead of the side-to-side motion used in traditional painting. Photo Gabi De la Rosa
Let the paint dry (there are large fans to speed up the process) and then remove the stencil. Clean up any extra paint and give it an extra minute or two to dry. Photo Gabi De la Rosa
The finished product is ready to take home. The whole process takes 2-3 hours, depending on what type of project you choose. Crafting with friends and wine makes the time fly by. Photo Gabi De la Rosa
