Little Shop of Horrors Plays in the Heart of Lakeway

Little Shop of Horrors will leave audiences second guessing gardening.

Surrounded by the glorious views of Lake Travis sits an intimate tiny gem tucked away in the Texas Hill Country. The gem: TexARTS’ Kam & James Morris Theatre in Lakeway, a suburb that’s a hop, skip and a jump from Austin. The theater is celebrating the Halloween season by resurrecting a little iconic ‘80s comedy, “Little Shop of Horrors,” playing now through October 20th.

The delicious sci-fi smash musical has devoured the hearts of theater-goers for more than 30 years. Originally adapted from the off-Broadway play of the same name, the 1986 movie has remained an audience favorite.

The story centers around nerdy florist Seymour Krelborn who works at Mushnik’s Skid Row Florists with his long-time crush, Audrey. After discovering the Venus flytrap-like plant he affectionately names Audrey II,  the exotic bloom offers the promise of fame and fortune. Seymour soon realizes Audrey II has a taste for blood and an insatiable appetite for power.

Featuring the same comedic follies and musicality of its namesake, this rendition sticks closely with the off-Broadway play, which is much different from the movie version. Audiences will have an opportunity to get a close-up view of the man-eating plant, Audrey II, in this intimate setting.

The theater seats around 100 people, many seated at cocktail tables close to the stage. With the cozy atmosphere, along with great acoustics, “Little Shop of Horrors” comes to life once again. Audiences will enjoy laughing and singing along with songs like “Little Shop of Horrors Medley,” “Suddenly, Seymour,” “Feed Me (Git It),” and “Mean Green Mother from Outer Space.”
