Hands up who knows any other company founder that includes “Recovering Drug Addict” in their job title?
For Wes Hurt, the founder of Austin-based CLEAN Cause, his company is all about supporting others. Having survived the challenges of years of his own devastating alcohol and drug addiction, Hurt’s now in the business of providing sober living scholarships to support recovery in others. The 30-day scholarships are funded by 50% of the profits from sales of Yerba Mate, CLEAN Cause’s healthy sparkling canned drinks.
As we all face unprecedented anxiety and seek ways to meet ever growing challenges, here’s what this inspiring CEO is listening to, and why he likes each song.
1. Stevie Ray Vaughan, “Life By the Drop”
Why? Dallas-born Vaughan is my favorite all-time guitarist.
2. Buddy Holly, “Everyday”
Why? Because it’s a toe-tappin’, feel-good classic.
Eric Tessmer, “Good So Bad”
Why? I can relate to him and his music. (Editor’s note: Tessmer is based in Austin.)
Steve Miller, “The Joker”
Why? It’s just so good!
Usher, “You make me wanna”
Why? Because it reminds me of a good time in my life.
