There’s an Italian dining jewel in North Austin that we adore.

We’ve sung the praises of Andiamo not once but twice over the years. Yes, we are fans.

And now, there’s more. Locally owned by Naples, Italy native Daniela Marcone, this authentic fine-dining haven has opened a speakeasy-style bistro in the back of the restaurant. Restare features delicious Italian appetizers perfectly paired with an amazing wine selection.

Not labeled by signage, you enter through the main restaurant and are taken to a back room that is dimly lit, with only five tables. The playlist ranges from Frank Sinatra to Neil Diamond which matches the vibe perfectly. 

Start out with a bold bottle of red wine (such as their Viticcio: 60% cabernet sauvignon, 10% merlot, 30% cabernet franc; $56/bottle), delightfully consumed with their famous warm and soft bread. 

The Restare menu has seven appetizer choices, ranging from hearty Italian meatballs (Polpette) to scrumptious fried ravioli (Ravioli Fritti). And you’ll even catch a glimpse of a Latin-infused dish featuring shrimp, avocado and roasted tomato (Gamberi e Avocado). 

The Antonelli’s cheese and meat plate features a bold rotation of seasonal options, sprinkled among marcona almonds and Castelvetrano green olives. Cheese options include a semi-soft traditional Italian cheese Fontina Val d’Aosta from the Fontina Co-op; and the Keystone and Whey Blue from River Whey Creamery. Meats might include selections from Indiana, Oregon and Italy.

Restare means “stay” in Italian which is exactly what you will want to do at this cozy bistro. The semi-private dining room features the same great customer service as Andiamo and the same transportation of art hanging on the wall that surely calls you to schedule a trip to Europe. 

We love this option for a special date night for two or a cozy gathering of friends. Enjoy sharing an amazing meal in an intimate setting. Whereas the main restaurant closes earlier, the lounge stays open as late as 11pm. 

Close by, they are busily building the new FC Austin soccer stadium. When that opens, this area of town is going to be a new hotspot.
