Dreamland is like no place Dripping Springs has seen before.
Recently opened, Dreamland is an oasis of outdoor sports, music and stunning visual arts on 64 acres of wide open space in the Texas Hill Country. The impressive area also features a beer garden and tap room.
An Outdoor Art Experience
Art has a prominent place at the venue, with an impressive array of awe-inspiring sculptures and murals from artists from all over the world. A lot of the sculptures and art have a deeper meaning as well, as creative director and Irish-born artist Gareth Maguire explains.
“All of the art here can be viewed on two levels. It can be seen as pretty and pleasing to look at, but you can also dig a little deeper and see there’s more to it,” says Maguire. “Many pieces have a history of immigration to America behind them.”
Walking around the grounds, guests will get a truly incredible art experience with large-scale sculptures and also a one-of-a-kind curated mural and graffiti park utilizing repurposed rainwater storage tanks.
The American Dream Translated
“No matter where you are born or what class you’re born into, you can come to America and find your place here. That is the American Dream,” says Maguire. That’s the message the Dreamland team is striving for — in an interesting meld of aesthetic art and pop culture.
“No matter who you are, you can come here and find something you can enjoy. Our sports of miniature golf and pickleball are sports that almost anyone can play.” At Dreamland it’s all about bringing people together and making them feel welcome.
Take the Mini Golf Challenge
Speaking of mini golf and pickleball, Dreamland has some of the most impressive courses and courts we have seen to date. Engulfed with art and creativity, the aesthetically pleasing mini golf courses vary in skill set, so no matter what your expertise, you can enjoy playing.
The 18-hole Challenge Course has three difficulty levels, creating 54 unique holes that range from par 2 to par 5. The Dream Course, adorned with Willy Wonka-inspired art, is a shorter 18-hole course with ample chances for hole-in-ones. There is also a Texas-shaped putting green in the beer garden, a perfect photo opportunity for those Instagram pics and some putting practice.
Pickleball for All
If you want to try out pickleball for the first time, or happen to be a seasoned pro, Dreamland is the place for you. For this tennis-meets-ping-pong sport, there are four premium, weather-protected, lighted courts. Patrons will have the opportunity to reserve the covered pickleball courts for private use, and Dreamland will soon host a wide variety of leagues, clinics and tournaments for all skill levels.
Food Trucks & Self-Serve Beer
After a tough match of pickleball, mini golf, or the various other sports Dreamland has in the works, refreshments are welcome for those playing under the Texas sun. Luckily, Dreamland not only hosts a good variety of food trucks but also one of the largest self-serve beer and wine selections in the US. Food options range from TexMex to pizza and so much more.
The bar features 90 self pour taps, local beers, hard seltzers, ciders and kombuchas, plus a wide selection of local wines. Regional breweries and wineries featured on tap at Dreamland include Austin Beerworks, Twisted X Brewery, Austin Eastciders and Pedernales Cellars along with many other local Dripping Springs breweries. Adults can sit and enjoy the beverages and brews while the kids play at the nearby playscape playground and refreshing splash pad.
The Importance of Sustainability
Visitors can enjoy their time here knowing they are being environmentally friendly, as sustainability is very important to the founding team. Dreamland captures the first FDA approved rainwater in the country with the iconic tanks, now covered in art, that have been a part of Richard’s Rainwater’s history and uses that water for many operations across the venue. Dreamland also has several Tesla charging stations and an impressive solar array on the roof of the bar and beer garden.
Day-Long Music in May
The ambitious venue has many plans in the works as well. Plans include opening a Museum of the American Dream, soccer fields, skating rinks, and having festivals to host musical artists. Their first day-long music and art festival, Dreamfest, is May 1. And there are many other outdoor events on the events calendar.
