Erin Kinsey, 23, a rising star in the world of country music, embodies the spirit of Texas with every note she plays.

Growing up in the Lone Star State, Erin was immersed in the sounds of country music from a young age, with her father’s radio always tuned to the rhythms of Miranda Lambert and the vibrant melodies of other Texas artists. For Erin, these influences are more than just nostalgic tunes; they are the backbone of her songwriting style. The guitar-driven sound and heartfelt storytelling that permeate Texas country music shaped her voice and vision, making their way into every song she writes.

The day after her high school graduation (she graduated a year early), Erin moved to Nashville. The transition from Texas to Nashville was a monumental step for her. Known as “Music City,” Nashville is filled with talented artists and creators, but it can also be a challenging environment to navigate. Reflecting on her move, Erin shared that patience was key. In a city where dreams often clash, it’s easy to feel like one is falling behind. But with her focus unwavering, Erin found strength in the community that surrounded her, from fellow musicians to industry professionals. The thrill of cheering each other on and collaborating with some of the best in the business has enriched her creative journey.

Embracing Texas Influences

Erin Kinsey’s journey into the heart of country music began in the vibrant landscapes of Texas, where she was immersed in a life filled with country melodies and heartfelt lyrics. Growing up in a household where country music was a staple, Erin vividly recalls, “Country music has been a part of my day-to-day life since I was a kid. It’s all my dad ever had on the radio — and I learned every Miranda Lambert song I could growing up. She was definitely my biggest Texas influence.” This early exposure not only fueled her love for music but also shaped her distinctive sound, rooted in guitar-driven Texas country music. “That’s definitely something that’s found its way into my music,” Erin adds, reflecting on how those foundational experiences resonate through her songs today.

The Big Move to Nashville

Transitioning from Texas to Nashville — a city synonymous with musical dreams — was both exhilarating and daunting for Erin. “Nashville is definitely called ‘Music City’ for a reason,” she shares. As she adjusted to the bustling environment filled with aspiring artists and industry professionals, Erin faced her share of challenges. “Two of the biggest challenges for me in moving to Nashville have been being patient and learning how to keep my ‘blinders’ on. It’s so easy to look around and feel like you’re falling behind,” she admits. Yet, amidst the challenges, she discovered a rewarding sense of community. “Easily, the biggest reward for me is getting to be a part of the community here,” Erin notes, emphasizing her joy in connecting with other artists and creative forces. “It’s so much fun—and truly an honor to be a part of the Nashville music scene.”

Celebrating Freedom in Artistry

Recently, Erin released her new EP titled Gettin’ Away With It, which symbolizes her journey toward self-acceptance and artistic freedom. “I wanted to title the project ‘Gettin’ Away With It’ because it is how I feel about my artistry right now,” she explains. “You hit the nail on the head — I’ve never felt more free to just create what I want to create and be whoever I want to be.” Reflecting on her evolving style, Erin shares that she initially struggled to fit into preconceived notions of what a country artist should be. “When I first got to town, for a few years I was stuck in trying to do the ‘right’ thing or what I thought everyone would want me to do,” she recalls. “This project is full of songs I think are cool, and I have fun singing.”

Crafting Authenticity

Erin’s music is a reflection of her lived experiences, and her songwriting process is a testament to that authenticity. “My songwriting process usually starts with a title or idea from my phone,” Erin reveals, giving insight into her creativity. “I’m always coming up with topics and melodies based on my day-to-day life. It’s fun to take those moments and tuck them away to bring them to life in a co-writing session.” This approach not only makes her music relatable but also invites listeners into her world.

Collaborating with Legends

Erin has also had the honor of collaborating with industry icons like Dolly Parton and Sara Evans on the poignant song Pink. “It was a song I wrote with Victoria Shaw and Jodi Marr after finding out that someone close to me had gone through a quiet battle with breast cancer,” she recounts. The project’s success exceeded her expectations, leading to partnerships with organizations like Susan G. Komen. Erin humbly reflects on the impact of her work: “Even though a lot of the songs I write and release are about me and my life, they are able to touch thousands of people.”

Connecting with Fans

With over 100 million streams, Erin’s connection with her audience is undeniable. “It’s amazing that people have related to the music as much as they have, especially when I feel like I write about such specific things in my life,” she says. This connection not only amplifies the joy of her live performances but also encourages her to be even more open in her songwriting. “I’ve learned we’re a lot more alike than we like to think sometimes!” she laughs, highlighting the communal spirit that music can foster.

Recent Hits and Future Aspirations

As she looks ahead, Erin is excited about her recent releases, including tracks like I Ain’t Crazy and Matchmaker. “These songs were both inspired by a past relationship with a boyfriend and an ex-best friend,” she shares, humorously emphasizing the personal nature of her lyrics. “But what I hope people take away from these songs is that you can make something fun and positive out of truly any situation.”

With an eye on future goals, Erin dreams of collaborating with artists she admires and taking the stage for her first headlining shows. “Those are both things I haven’t really gotten to explore — and I’m so excited to do someday,” she says, her enthusiasm infectious.
