The Dance Between Disciplines

Family traditions play a crucial role in Cheyenne’s life and artistic journey, especially during the holidays, where cherished moments inspire creativity. “Growing up in the ballet community taught me a lot about grace and poise,” she says. “You really can’t appreciate it until you’ve put in the hard work. I’m thankful for that background because it instilled in me a sense of perfectionism that helps me in my craft. I’ve learned the importance of never settling for less than my best, which has given me a deep respect for everyone in this profession.”

A Young Artist’s Perspective

Being an 18-year-old artist comes with its challenges, but Cheyenne embraces her journey of self-discovery and growth while finding strength in her faith. “At just 18, I know I still have a long way to go to figure out who I am as an artist and a person. The last couple of years have been tough, especially regarding mental health and finding my purpose. Luckily, I’ve been raised in a supportive environment. I meditate a lot, and that really brings me peace, encouraging me to work harder toward my goals. I believe my album offers a fresh vibe of hope compared to most Christmas albums. It’s all about joy, optimism, and faith. I want my music to convey that, no matter how dark life can be, if you work hard and stay true to your faith, good things will come.”

Finding Balance

Balance is key in Cheyenne’s life as she navigates the demands of high school, theater, and her burgeoning music career, learning to manage her time and energy effectively. “This year has taught me the importance of balance, especially while still in high school. Juggling good grades, theater and producing an album has been challenging. I learned to manage this when I played Nancy in the play, Oliver the Musical. That role was pretty heavy and required me to go to some tough mental places. During my junior year, which is notoriously tough, it became crucial for me to separate my theater life from my everyday life.

“Meditation became my go-to strategy for self-care during this journey. I fell in love with it while playing Ellie Blake in the play, Freaky Friday the Musical. To portray both the daughter and the mom authentically, I formed a close bond with my stage mom. We started daily meditations as a pre-show ritual, which helped us stay grounded and connected. That practice has stuck with me, helping me manage the craziness of my career.”

The Creative Journey

The process of creating her debut album has been both exciting and daunting for Cheyenne, as she learns to put her unique stamp on beloved Christmas classics..“Creating this album has been a dream come true. At first, it felt overwhelming because I was stepping into a whole new side of entertainment. The challenge was figuring out how to make these well-known songs feel uniquely mine. I spent a lot of time collaborating with my amazing composer, Sam Cardon, and my vocal coach, Roger Love. Sam worked tirelessly to give each track a twist that represented me. Then, once we had the basic tracks, Roger and I experimented with ways to reinterpret the songs while honoring their roots.

“August was exciting as I flew out to LA after attending a Broadway camp in Utah. We spent ten days in the studio, recording vocals all day long — not an easy gig when you’re used to moving around! Both Roger and I are perfectionists, and the process wasn’t always smooth sailing. At one point, we got a bit strained due to exhaustion, but I learned the significance of appreciating each other’s craft. I kept up my meditation routine, staying centered and connected to give my best each day.”

The Influence of My Roots

Cheyenne’s upbringing in Connecticut and Texas has profoundly shaped her musical influences, blending Broadway flair with contemporary sounds to create her distinctive style. “Being born in Connecticut but growing up in Texas has shaped me a lot as an artist. Living so close to NYC meant I got to experience Broadway from a young age, and shows like Wicked were what ignited my passion for performance. That Broadway influence is still in my voice today. However, growing up in Texas also allowed me to explore various music genres. I’ll admit country music isn’t really my jam, but I love artists like Billie Eilish, Rex Orange County, and Tyler, the Creator. So, while I definitely have a Broadway flair, my sound has evolved into a mix of Broadway and modern vibes. You can hear that upbeat energy in my album, and I usually lean toward fun and fast-paced songs over ballads.

“Living in Texas has its perks too. One of my favorites? The faster speed limits — because who wants to be stuck going slow, right? More importantly, Texas has instilled in me a strong sense of family values and traditions. The vibe in my neighborhood, with families gathering, really influenced my writing process for this album. It’s a tribute to the importance of love and family, especially during the holidays.”

Home and Belonging

For Cheyenne, the concepts of home and belonging are deeply intertwined, reflecting her personal experiences and journey toward self-acceptance. “Home means a lot of different things. It could be a person or a place where you feel secure and safe from life’s harsh realities. In today’s world, it’s crucial to cherish that sense of home, whether it’s with family or close friends. As for belonging, I think it’s something you discover as you grow. In high school, I often felt like I didn’t belong — never the typical popular girl, never invited to parties. But I learned that belonging comes from self-acceptance and personal growth is vital. Once I found my confidence, everything shifted. My perspective, my talent and even my self-doubt began to disappear. I finally felt like I belonged where I was meant to be.”

Taking on the role of music producer for her album has been a rewarding experience for Cheyenne, allowing her to channel her passion into a meaningful project that resonates with others. “Taking on music production in this album has been truly rewarding. I often tell people that this talent is a blessing meant to share joy with others. As a child, I was inspired by the Original Broadway Cast of Wicked and decided to pursue this professionally. The feedback I’ve received from families across the globe listening to my album has been heartwarming, and it fills me with joy.

“This process taught me about hard work and dedication. I had no idea how challenging it would be to record and produce an entire album. It was the toughest thing I’ve done so far in my career, and I have a newfound respect for artists of all kinds. The energy, creativity, and effort from everyone involved in the production deserves major credit.”

What’s Next?

With graduation right around the corner, Cheyenne is eager to embark on the next chapter of her career, teasing exciting new projects and collaborations on the horizon. “Exciting times ahead! I’m graduating from high school in May and moving to Utah to kick off my acting career right away. No college for me; I’m diving straight into work! While I can’t spill too many details yet, keep your eyes peeled for a possible second album and some amazing projects lined up for 2025. My awesome team and I are diligently working on more incredible stuff for you all, and I cannot wait to share everything soon!”
