The end of winter is just the beginning of great times to be had in College Station, Texas, a thriving small city known for Texas A&M University, but home to a whole lot more.
The “Howdy” hospitality Aggieland is known for is always present, as are the fabulous restaurants and eclectic shops that make the city so much fun. But something about spring — maybe it’s the festivals or Texas A&M’s Maroon and White Game — adds an undeniable, can’t-miss energy.
Blooming Beauty and Artistic Inspiration
Throughout the spring season, College Station bursts with color. Its air is filled with the sound of music and the scent of authentic Texas BBQ as locals and visitors enjoy various outdoor events in outstanding weather. Going Green at J. Wayne Stark Galleries allows guests to view brilliant floral displays made from recycled materials. In the hands of talented artists, grocery bags become crocheted wall hangings, plastic bubble wands form flowers, and old magazines fold into the petals of stunning bouquets for all to enjoy. The Historic Northgate District hosts the Spring Homegrown Market, where over 50 local vendors offer everything from artwork and jewelry to handcrafted candles and haute home décor. A true family affair, the festival also allows kids to have their faces painted, create their own flower crowns, or run and play with friends while the folks shop.

Festivals Galore: Music, Food, and Community
Spring is also festival season in College Station, bringing competition, camaraderie, and plenty of live music to town. Chilifest in nearby Snook, Texas, is a two-day celebration of bowls of spicy chili, coolers of ice-cold drinks, and stages filled with talented acts ready to get visitors’ boots scootin’. Flautists and those who love them will enjoy the World Shakuhachi Festival, which brings an international community of fans of the bamboo flute of Japan to Central Texas to share in the musical fun.

Wine, Roses, and Outdoor Adventures
Hullabloom Fest, taking place in The Gardens of Texas A&M University, offers yet another opportunity to get out into nature and be inspired by arts, crafts, a butterfly release, and more. For those with a taste for wine, the Messina Hof Wine & Roses Festival lets guests stomp grapes, taste the delicious wines they eventually become, and admire beautiful blooms and rows of vines across the vineyard.

A Music & BBQ Lover’s Paradise
Perhaps the biggest event of the season, the Troubadour Festival is a music-lover’s must-see, filling Aggie Park with legendary Americana artists performing live while 25+ of the state’s best pitmasters serve up signature dishes in search of being named the best of the best.

Aggie Spirit in Full Swing
Speaking of the Aggies, there’s always plenty going on at Texas A&M University in spring. Family Weekend brings in young and old Aggies to participate in Yell Practice, cheer on the team as they hit the baseball field, see student performances, or explore campus dorms before sending yet another generation of the family off to College Station for four years…or more. The Maroon & White Football Game is another great opportunity to show school spirit while watching the newest Aggie players join veterans in the annual scrimmage. Baseball, softball, and tennis competitions occur all spring long, letting fans get their fix of sports of all kinds. And in April, the time-honored tradition of Muster brings together the entire community to celebrate the lives of Aggies who’ve passed away through a remarkable roll call, candlelight remembrance, and tributes from community leaders.
