Now entering its 33rd year of amazing feats performed around the world by graceful daredevils, combined with stunning illusions and eye-popping costumes, Cirque du Soleil is bound for a return engagement to the AT&T Center in San Antonio with their newest show: Crystal.

For the first time ever, the performers of Cirque will take to the ice—combining the skill, speed and grace of acrobatics with ice skating. Their new show runs in the Alamo City from October 13-15.

“It’s our capacity to reinvent ourselves each time [that has made] Cirque du Soleil popular for so long,” said Cirque publicist Julie Desmarais. “From the beginning, Cirque du Soleil has been audacious in the way we’ve developed shows, surprising our spectators by doing things differently.”

As Cirque prepared to unveil Crystal on this new world tour, the creators wanted a completely innovative showcase that would be something brand-new to even the most veteran of show goers. With Cirque’s track record, Crystal is guaranteed to blow away all expectations!

“With Crystal, Cirque wanted to reinvent the traditional ice show and highlight the many possibilities of the ice as a new medium of performance,” said Desmarais. “Crystal blurs the skills of ice skating and acrobatics together and requires a lot of adaptation from everyone.”

The show features a cast of 40 world-class artists and follows the story of the lead character Crystal on her journey of self-discovery through her own imagination.

“This production includes solo and pair figure skaters, acrobats, extreme skaters, characters and musicians,” said Desmarais. “We have faced a few challenges while creating the show. For example, our acrobats will tumble, run, do pyramids on the ice and needed shoes with crampons for stability,” explained Desmarais. “This is one of many examples of our creators and craftspeople having to think outside of the box to solve a non-traditional problem.”

Above all else, the show’s creators and performers were determined to bring to audiences something they have never seen before with Crystal. They wanted to create a show – an experience – that both at times defied gravity and defied any and all preconceived expectations. Crystal promises to be unlike anything you have ever seen.

“Disciplines such as swinging trapeze, aerial straps, and hand-to-hand were fused together with disciplines such as synchro, freestyle, figure and extreme skating on ramps, with a dash of all-out speed skating,” said Desmarais. “Figure skaters learned to be pushers on Chinese poles, while circus artists learned to skate, and extreme skaters learned figure skating moves. The acrobats had to learn how to skate and the skaters needed to learn how to juggle.”

Crystal is not just an ice show, it’s the very first experience on ice from Cirque du Soleil. Do not to miss seeing this experience for yourself. Get tickets today here for Cirque du Soleil Crystal, at San Antonio’s AT&T Center October 13-15, 2017.
