The sounds of cinema are alive and well as Mondo recently announced the 30th anniversary soundtrack release to the ’80s comedy classic CLUE, based on the popular board game of the same name. Simultaneously a self-aware comedy and self-effacing suspenseful mystery, John Morris’ score for the film keeps up with the mood and frantic pacing while it walks the razor thin wire of balancing tones.
Available for the first time ever on vinyl, the CLUE soundtrack LP will be pressed on one of six different 180-gram vinyl colors for each of the suspects (Scarlett, Peacock Blue, White, Green, Plum and Mustard) with each color limited to 250 copies.
“Re-watching CLUE today you realize that it’s a strangely timeless film,” said Mo Shafeek, Mondo’s Soundtracks Production Manager. “Part of that timelessness comes from John Morris’ tremendous score, which is masterful in juggling CLUE’s bizarre genre-bending tone. And we are honored to be celebrating the score as part of the film’s 30th Anniversary celebration.”
For Texans looking for the ultimate CLUE anniversary celebration — and to get their hands on a soundtrack earlier than Mondo’s 2016 sale date — Mondo and Alamo Drafthouse have come together to present two CLUE Quote-Along shows in Texas during December. If you’re in the Houston area, you’ll want to catch the show on Friday, December 4. If you’re in the Austin area, then head to Alamo Drafthouse on Sunday, December 13.
“We’re thrilled to partner with Mondo in celebration of a film that hasn’t lost one ounce of humor in thirty years,” said Sarah Pitre, Alamo’s Director of Programming and Promotions. “Whether you’ve seen this movie a thousand times or never before, it’s no mystery that you’ll have a ridiculously fun night at the CLUE Quote-Along.”
The CLUE Quote-Along is like the best parts of watching the movie AND playing the board game all in one. Fans are welcome to quip, quote (“flames, flames on the side of face”) and scream along with the movie, while props like flashlights, bells and Clue Cards help bring the action to life in the theater.
