On Saturday, July 20, Germania Amphitheater at the Circuit of the America’s played host to the “Ashes of Leviathan” tour featuring two of heavy metal’s biggest acts, Lamb of God and Mastodon.
These two metal behemoths brought powerhouse performances to a fervent crowd on a sweltering summer night. Both bands, revered in the metal community for their ferocity and musical prowess, delivered a show that left the audience buzzing long after the final notes had been played.
Joining the two co-headliners on the bill was Sheffield, England’s, metal band Malevolence, and one of the icons of thrash metal music, Kerry King. After 43 years in the band Slayer, King, who founded Slayer and played guitar, focused on his solo career and in May released his debut solo album “From Hell I Rise.”
From Lamb of God’s brutal intensity to Mastodon’s intricate progressions, the evening was a testament to the enduring power and diversity of the genre. Here is a look back on the performances.
