There are a lot of artists that I want to see live in concert –Pearl Jam, Paul McCartney, and so many others. This past Saturday I was able to cross Janet Jackson off my bucket list.

Jackson’s “Together Again”, which is also the name of one of her songs from 1997’s “The Velvet Rope,” performed in Austin at the Moody Center on Saturday, July 27, 2024. This was a high energy show for fans who have followed her illustrious career, with Nelly as the featured opener.

Kicking off the night’s show was rapper Nelly, who was born in Austin before moving to St Louis. The “Country Grammar” rapper energized the crowd with his high energy stage presence.

He played hits such as “E.I.” and “Ride Wit Me” before closing his 40 minute set with “Hot in Herre.” It was the perfect way to get the crowd fired up for Janet Jackson.

The “Together Again” concert was filled with electrifying experiences for the fans as Janet Jackson performed the greatest hits from her fifty-year music career.

With dazzling lights, dynamic choreography, multiple costume changes, and no wardrobe malfunctions, the crowd was captivated throughout the entire show.

Even at age 58, Janet Jackson’s vocals and dance moves proved why she is one of pop music’s icons.

I was never able to see her brother, Michael Jackson, perform while he was alive, but seeing Janet perform live took me back in time with her music, and made for an amazing evening.

Janet Jackson closed her performance with “Scream,” a song she and her brother Michael Jackson recorded together, before taking the crowd at the Moody Center to “Rhythm Nation.” For her encore she performed “Someone to Call My Lover,” and concluded the night with “Together Again.” Photo Solaiman Fazel.
