The curtain’s rising on something different at the Georgetown Palace Theatre.
Known for its grand musicals and classic stage performances, this century-old gem trades jazz hands for guitar riffs with the launch of the Renegade Revival Music Fest, a brand-new celebration of Central Texas music, community, and creativity happening May 17.
Tucked along the charming brick-lined streets of downtown Georgetown, the Palace Theatre has long been a cultural cornerstone. With its iconic marquee, red velvet curtains, and intimate historic stage, the venue oozes vintage character. But for one special evening, it’s shifting gears, welcoming a new kind of performer to its Springer Stage: the renegades, the risk-takers, and the storytellers.

At the heart of the festival is a simple idea: a spotlight on talented musicians from around Central Texas who are forging their path, often outside the big-city bustle of Austin. And where better than Georgetown, one of Texas’s 54 officially designated cultural districts, where creativity pulses year-round?

This year’s debut lineup packs a punch with four local standouts who bring a bold blend of Americana, folk, and atmospheric rock. There’s Jack Barksdale, a teenage guitar prodigy with the soul of a seasoned bluesman and lyrics that cut deep. Gilded Lows brings a dreamy, layered sound that floats between indie rock and cinematic soundscape. Walkabouts crank up the energy with their Southern-fried folk-rock. Kate Heron rounds out the roster with poetic songwriting and a stripped-down acoustic style that quiets a room in the best way.

It’s a lineup chosen not for trends or ticket draws but for authenticity, and it shows.
What also sets Renegade Revival apart is its purpose. A portion of each ticket supports HAAM (Health Alliance for Austin Musicians), a nonprofit providing affordable healthcare to working musicians. This cause hits home for many artists, especially the independent ones carving their careers gig by gig, mile by mile. Partnering with HAAM gives this festival heart, making it more than just a night of great music. It’s a chance to support people who bring rhythm and soul to our communities.

The vibe? Think of a less sprawling outdoor fest and a more carefully curated listening room with style. Instead of battling the sun and long lines, guests will enjoy the cozy, acoustically rich atmosphere of the Palace Theatre, where every note, lyric, and harmony feels personal. Between sets, visitors can stroll through downtown Georgetown, sip a craft cocktail nearby, or pop into a gallery; it’s all part of the experience.
While it’s the first of its kind, festival organizers hope Renegade Revival becomes a new tradition, drawing in audiences who might not typically visit the theatre. It’s also an invitation to see Georgetown in a new light, not just as a historic day-trip destination but as a thriving, ever-evolving creative hub.

If you’re looking for a night that blends heritage with innovation, music with mission, and local flavor with immense talent, make your way to the Palace. Come for the music, stay for the magic of a town that knows how to celebrate the arts. Sometimes, revival doesn’t mean looking back.
