Hurricane Harvey is no match for The Powell Brothers’ dedication and tenacity when it comes to making music and lighting up the stage.

The Houston-based Country-Americana band features brothers Taylor Powell on lead vocals and Blake Powell on lead guitar. The Powell Brothers’ new full-length album, ‘Leave On The Light,’combines elements of folk-rock, rootsy soul and country.  Audiences across Texas are going to get a taste of their timeless sound as the band heads out on tour, criss-crossing the Lone Star State now through June 28.

“Hurricane Harvey definitely changed a lot of things for us,” explains Taylor Powell, lead vocalist of rising Texas band The Powell Brothers. “The plans we had been making for the previous few months were completely wiped out. As we were tearing down our childhood home, there were definitely many moments of despair.”

The brothers began recording their latest album during the aftermath and devastation of Hurricane Harvey, which hit the Texas coast in 2017. What started out as a five-song EP was put on hold when Harvey destroyed their studio, including hard drives containing the near-completed project. “At that point, we had to make a decision,” said the brothers. “Do we want to start from scratch and redo these five songs, or do we wanna take this as a sign that we should do something bigger?”

The album took quite a bit of effort to complete but they overcame their obstacles and eventually released it. Perseverance, resilience and life on the road provided the inspiration for the new collection of songs on their latest album which staggers artfully between timeless arrangements and sharp songcraft showcasing a defiant, evolving band on the rise.

Their first single ‘Coming Home’ spent seven weeks in the Top 20 on both the TRRR and CDX Traction Texas radio charts. The group’s follow-up single, ‘Somewhere Down The Road,’ was recognized as the highest debuting single on the TRRR chart.

The band’s music really comes to life in their high-energy live shows. The Powell Brothers are true road warriors, burning up the highways with an average of 150 shows per year.  They’ve toured with numerous top national acts like Montgomery Gentry, Bellamy Brothers, Cody Johnson, the Randy Rogers Band and many more.
