Originally opened in 1915, the historic Paramount Theatre has been a second home for generations of Austinites to gather and be entertained. The Paramount is one of only 20 theatres in the country that is over 100 years old and still in use as a venue.

The Paramount Theatre offers a wide array of festive theatre and music performances like Duke Ellington’s The Nutcracker Suite and Bob Schneider’s annual Great Big Spectacular New Year’s Eve Party. These would be perfect to bring family or friends together for the holiday season and could create new traditions for celebrating the holidays at The Paramount.

The Paramount Theatre also shows a variety of nostalgic Christmas movies that the whole family would enjoy. Movies this year included Home Alone 2, Love Actually, It’s a Wonderful Life, White Christmas, and Miracle on 34th Street.

The Paramount Theatre reaches over 22,000 students in Central Texas for education that connect classrooms and theatres for scholarships and programs. From the musical stage adaptation of Winnie the Pooh to one of the largest comedy festivals in the nation,

The Moontower Just For Laughs Austin festival every April, there are a multitude of shows that connect students due to the Paramount Education Team.

In partnership with Tejemos Foundation, Six Square, and Austin Justice Coalition, the Paramount Theatre is presenting a night of insight from American political activist, professor, and author Angela Davis on February 1st. Over half the auditorium will be reserved for Austin-area students, social justice, women’s studies, journalism groups, and nonprofits focused on healthcare, equity, and diversity, plus The Paramount Theatre and The Tejemos Foundation will grant $25,000 to a local graduating student. They seek to bring communities together in order to promote social equity, justice, and diversity. In addition to Angela Davis speaking, there will be a documentary screening of Black Power Mixtape 1967-1975 on Wednesday, January 18th at 7 pm at no cost to attendees. Register for complimentary tickets at https://tickets.austintheatre.org/8850.

Texas Lifestyle Magazine will always have a special connection with The Paramount Theatre. Our late Editor-in-Chief Julie Tereshchuk, together with her husband Trevor, always held a pair of season tickets and were regular philanthropists to the theatre. Julie was an inspiration and a light to the Texas Lifestyle team for eight years where she was a leader, a mentor, and a friend to everyone. We hope to keep her light alive, continuing the support of The Paramount Theatre.
