If you were at Freeman Coliseum in San Antonio on April 29, then you already know: Sessanta V2.0 wasn’t your average rock show. It was a full-blown, genre-defying birthday party hosted by none other than Maynard James Keenan.

He brought some serious company. Picture this: A Perfect Circle, Puscifer, and Primus all taking turns on stage, but not in that typical “opener-headliner” format. Nope. This was a constantly shifting, tag-team-style set where band members flowed on and off the stage like a prog-metal jam session crossed with a theater production.

Maynard James Keenan, ever the winemaker and master of blending, brought that same mindset to the stage, mixing A Perfect Circle, Puscifer, and Primus into one seamless, collaborative experience. This wasn’t your typical concert with openers and a headliner. Instead, the bands took turns in a kind of musical relay, trading off every few songs and even sharing the stage at times. It kept things fresh, fast-paced, and totally unpredictable in the best way.

Right from the jump, the energy was high and never really dipped. Just when you’d start to settle into one vibe, Primus would burst in with something weird and wonderful like “Here Come the Bastards,” only for A Perfect Circle to shift the mood completely with something more haunting, like “The Contrarian.” The constant back-and-forth created this push and pull that made the whole night feel dynamic and alive.

Maynard made it clear early on that this night wasn’t just about running through the hits. It was about the experience. At one point, he even told the crowd to “put your stupid phones away, and be present on this journey tonight.” And honestly? He was right. This wasn’t a show you could capture through a screen, it was something you had to feel in real time.

One of the most memorable moments of the night? A massive all-hands-on-deck performance during Puscifer’s “Grand Canyon.” Everyone, yes, everyone, was on stage. It was this soaring, cinematic finale that felt like the crescendo of some epic rock opera you didn’t know you needed.

Sessanta V2.0 wasn’t just a celebration of Keenan turning 60-ish. It was a reminder that live music can still surprise us, still experiment, and still feel completely fresh. San Antonio showed up, and Maynard and crew gave them a night they won’t forget anytime soon.
