Follow the yellowbrick road to Zach Theater this season as the iconic production of “The Wizard of Oz” returns to Austin with all its magic, August 13 – September 21, 2025. Relive the magic we all came to love – or discover it for the first time. There’s no place like Austin for an unforgettable experience with charming Texas twists!
Here’s what you should expect at The Wizard of Oz: A 1930s-style Dust Bowl-era cowboy and cowgirl band that will greet you with musical fun as soon as you walk in. Cuteness overload from Toto (the dog actor). A parade of bubbles each time Glinda makes an appearance. A new take on Dorothy’s red slippers. Hint: think, what do Texans love wearing? Expect twists and turns at every yellow-brick corner!

The production is a fresh take on the timeless classic, and is truly an immersive experience. The yellow brick road goes all around the audience, so prepare for actors to pop out of all different angles. You may even partake in the show, as they may invite you to dance or hold props along the way, as the action takes place both on stage and in the house where the audience is seated. The audience loved it, with plenty of cheer, laughter, and a standing ovation—perfect for fall family fun!

I enjoyed every minute of it! I found myself feeling a wave of nostalgia, singing along to lyrics I didn’t realize I still remembered from childhood.
The cast, including both adult and student performers, is incredibly talented. The adult cast stars Moira Poh as Dorothy, Raphe Gilliam as Scarecrow, Ryan Everett Wood as Zeke/Cowardly Lion, and Mariel Ardila as Glinda, while the talented student cast brings the Lullaby League, Lollipop Guild, and other beloved characters to life.

“I invite you to join us in creating the scarecrow’s cornfield, the stunning poppy field, and the parade of bubbles that accompany Glinda,” said Director Dave Steakley. “And when we’re off to see the Wizard, Munchkinland turns into a boot-stompin’ hoedown to raise our spirits as we begin this adventure together. Slip on your cowboy boots and join us on the yellow brick road, ‘cause there’s no place like home.”

Whether you grew up watching the classic or introducing the story to a new generation, this iconic production is a must-see. We’re off to see The Wizard! There’s No Place Like Austin for a Texas-Style Wizard of Oz
