A new brunch spot with a lot of tasty Southern-style variety is now open in North Austin.
Another Broken Egg Café has restaurants across the U.S., but the first Austin member of this far-flung café family is locally owned. Nathan and Lianne Straathof decided to open an Another Broken Egg Café in their family-friendly neighborhood after enjoying the food and hospitality concept of the restaurant in other cities.
Another Broken Egg won’t break the bank but may break your foodie heart as signature dishes with a twist include Cinnamon Roll French toast, Crab Cake Benedict and Shrimp N’ Grits – along with innovative brunch cocktails and coffees.
Patio space was abundant on a crisp fall morning, and ideal for these socially-distanced times. Bonus, it’s also dog-friendly. During my first visit, I quickly developed a love for the salted caramel cold brew coffee, which is also available in a spiked version. Decked with a rim of salted caramel, you can order this tasty beverage plain or spiked with Baileys Kahlua.
Gluten-friendly and vegetarian menus are available, along with a kids’ menu and rotating seasonal drinks and dishes. From now through the end of the year, the Austin location is currently offering seasonal favorites, Pecan Praline & Candied Bacon French Toast and an Original Southern EggNog.
To help combat the so-called “quarantine 15,” I opted for the Monterrey omelet (shown at the top of this article) from the Sensible Creations section of the traditional menu. Beyond a basic omelet, the flavor-packed, savory dish is made of egg whites loaded with chicken, onions, green chilies and tomatoes – all topped with guajillo sauce, jack cheese and avocado.
For sides, you can select a nice serving of seasonal fruit – or you can select from Another Broken Egg’s 16 side offerings. Their Signature City Grits is definitely worth a try. Stone ground grits are slow cooked all day with smoked gouda, bacon, tomatoes and green onions on top.
Another Broken Egg Café operates in more than 70 different locations in 13 states. FSR Magazine named it as one of the 10 Best Restaurant Chains in 2019 and Franchise Times recognized it as one of its Fast & Serious Smartest Growing brands.
