Fall in Texas may not always bring cooler temperatures, but it does bring plenty of seasonal beer, live music and Oktoberfest celebrations.

From Central to East Texas, breweries across the state are putting their own spin on the Bavarian tradition with stein-hoisting competitions, German food, local vendors and, of course, plenty of beer.

Whether you are looking for an entire weekend of Oktoberfest fun or a road trip built around beer and live music, here are four Texas brewery celebrations worth adding to your fall calendar.

Karbachtoberfest – Houston

Karbach Brewing Company is going big for this year’s Karbachtoberfest with three consecutive weekends of festivities at its Houston biergarten. The celebration begins Sept. 18–20, continues Sept. 25–27 and concludes Oct. 2–4.

Visitors can expect beer, brats, live music, stein-hoisting competitions and the always entertaining wiener dog races. The star of the celebration is Karbachtoberfest, the brewery’s Bavarian-style Märzen brewed with Vienna and Munich malts. Its amber color and smooth, toasted finish make it an easy choice for raising a stein and offering a hearty “Prost!”

With three weekends to choose from, Karbachtoberfest offers plenty of opportunities to experience one of Houston’s biggest Bavarian celebrations. Learn more about Karbachtoberfest.

Rüeggenfest – Marshall

East Texas gets into the Oktoberfest spirit when Rüeggenbach Brewing Company brings Rüeggenfest to downtown Marshall on Sept. 12. The brick streets surrounding the brewery will be transformed into a Bavarian-style festival village filled with beer, food and small-town Texas hospitality.

The festival will feature German-inspired lagers, seasonal beers and special releases brewed specifically for the event. Guests can also enjoy live music, artisan vendors, traditional games, stein-holding competitions, costume contests and dachshund races. A dedicated children’s area and family activities make Rüeggenfest more than just a destination for beer drinkers.

The combination of a historic downtown setting and an independent East Texas brewery gives Rüeggenfest a personality all its own. Find additional Rüeggenfest information.

Hi Sign Brewing Oktoberfest – Austin

Austin beer lovers can celebrate the season at Hi Sign Brewing on Sept. 26. The East Austin brewery’s Oktoberfest celebration will bring together seasonal beer, traditional festival games and a vendor market.

The brewery will also show the Texas football game against Mississippi, giving Longhorn fans a chance to trade the usual tailgate for an Oktoberfest celebration. It is a laid-back option for anyone who wants to enjoy local beer and Bavarian-inspired fun without leaving Austin.

Hi Sign’s spacious outdoor grounds also make this a good gathering place for groups looking to spend an afternoon enjoying beer, football and the beginning of fall in Central Texas. Visit Hi Sign Brewing for event updates.

Shinerfest – Shiner

Shinerfest may lean more toward Texas music than a traditional Oktoberfest, but it is hard to put together a fall beer road trip without including a visit to the historic K. Spoetzl Brewery. The fourth annual festival will take place Oct. 24 from noon to 10 p.m. at Shiner headquarters.

The event will feature rising country artists performing throughout the day, along with festival activities, entertainment and plenty of cold Shiner beer. General admission includes four complimentary beers, while VIP packages are also available for those looking to upgrade their experience.

Before Shinerfest arrives, the brewery will also host three free Oktoberfest weekends on Sept. 19, Sept. 26 and Oct. 3. That gives visitors several chances to make the drive to Shiner and celebrate fall at the home of one of Texas’ most recognizable breweries.

Admission to Shinerfest is $80, and the event is open to guests 21 and older. Purchase tickets and find more information.

Altstadt Brewery – Fredericksburg

Few places in Texas seem better suited for an Oktoberfest celebration than Altstadt Brewery. Located just outside Fredericksburg, the brewery already brings a taste of Bavaria to the Hill Country with its German-inspired architecture, Grand Hall and outdoor Biergarten.

Altstadt’s Oktoberfest celebration will be held Oct. 18 and leans heavily into those German traditions. Past festivities have included live music, German food, a ceremonial keg tapping, stein-hoisting competitions, a German garb contest and even a greased bratwurst toss, with the celebration ending with fireworks over the brewery.

Of course, there is plenty of beer involved, including Altstadt’s seasonal Oktoberfest offerings. While the brewery has not yet announced the full details for its 2026 celebration, Altstadt is one to keep on the calendar as Oktoberfest season approaches.

Barking Armadillo Brewing – Georgetown

Barking Armadillo Brewing & Coffee House has become a neighborhood gathering spot in Georgetown since opening its doors in 2020, offering locally brewed beer and a steady lineup of community events.

On Oct. 3, Barking Armadillo will get into the German spirit with its Oktoberfest celebration. It is also a good time to grab a pint of Barktoberfest, the brewery’s seasonal Oktoberfest beer that is available now at the taproom. And while you’re exploring Barking Armadillo, don’t forget about Barking Armadillo Social, the brewery’s second Georgetown location, which opened last year and offers another spot to enjoy their beer along with pizza and a laid-back neighborhood atmosphere.

A Texas Take on Oktoberfest

Texas breweries have always been good at taking a tradition and making it their own. Some celebrations stay close to their Bavarian roots with polka music, steins and bratwurst, while others add Texas country music, football and local craft beer to the mix.

No matter which festival you choose, these events offer a good excuse to gather a few friends, plan a fall road trip and raise a glass to Oktoberfest season in Texas. Prost!
