Perry’s Restaurants launches its first Mexican restaurant concept in Austin.

Perry’s Restaurants recently introduced a new restaurant concept, VERDAD True Modern Mexican. Founder and owner, Chris Perry, chose Austin for the location and opened its doors to diners on Dec. 11 in Austin’s new development The Grove. You can find this new Austin resident directly across from another Perry’s restaurant, CARVE American Grille.

Discover the Truth

VERDAD is Spanish for Truth. VERDAD elevates true Mexican dishes and cocktails while adding a modern twist. Further the restaurant hosts you in an environment that celebrates Mexican art and heritage. The space accommodates approximately 100 guests for indoor and outdoor dining and offers private, semi private, and group dining areas.

Homage to Agave

VERDAD celebrates the agave history of Mexico.  Its space presents bottles of agave spirits like art within its walls.  VERDAD has dedicated The Agave Table alongside its Agave Wall to offer a communal but semi-private experience.  Guests can enjoy 10 different agave tasting combinations of three one-ounce pairs.  There are five tequila flights and five mezcal flights ranging from $29 to $89 per person.  All tastings end with an amazing handcrafted sorbet to cleanse your palate.

Terrazzo Bar

Beyond wall and table, the Terrazo Bar continues the agave celebration with its tequila and mezcal menus as well as unique agave spirited cocktails and mocktails. Veradad’s signature cocktails include the Margarita Al Centro, a specialty margarita infused with  a handcrafted sorbet, available in an array of flavors. This specialty margarita can also be ordered with a tableside experience. After 7 p.m., guests can enjoy a flaming shot of the day.

Other cocktail standouts include The Reserve MexiCal with mezcal and topped with Perry’s Reserve Cabernet and the Loco Carajillo with tequila, Licor 43 and Nixta Licor de Elote. The restaurant’s pours also include Perry’s reserve wines from its sister restaurant in addition to a curated wine and sparkling list. For happy hour – or Hora Feliz – guests can enjoy $2 off starters, VERDAD pours of wines by the glass, cocktails and beers daily from 4-6:30 p.m.

The Cuisine

The culinary creations blend both past and present throughout the entire menu. Starters include Pinto Bean Hummus, Pork Spare Rib Barbacoa, and Hamachi Ceviche. Signature entrees present Oaxacan Filet, Garlic Shrimp Fideo, Smoked Steak Relleno, and a Fiesta Board for 4. Choose sides such as Yuca Mash, Corn Souffle Cake, Bone Marrow Canoes, and Huitlacoche. Last but not least, enjoy the dessert:  Seis Leches, Sorbet with a Mezcal Floater, and Burnt Milk Candy. The menu also offers trio samplers for its sweets and sorbets.

Pro Tip:  purchase an extra serving of the burnt milk candy from the Candy Case and add it to your next charcuterie board.
