Nothing pairs better with wine than a restful resort getaway, an onsite brewery and a restaurant–it’s a one-stop vacation destination. ReWined yourself at Carter Creek Winery & Resort, just outside of Johnson City on the famed Wine Road of Texas, Highway 290.

This resort, which opened in 2018, features 78 comfortable one-story villas for your getaway. The one-bedroom villas can sleep 2-6 people, depending on the style. Each living room features a foldout couch, sized for one teen/adult or possibly two little kids.

Carter Creek is the perfect place for a family or friend getaway because both beer and wine drinkers can be tastefully accommodated. Carter Creek provides the perfect marriage of delicious craft beer with fantastic Texas wines (a tasting room features crowd favorites like Plateau White and Plateau Red), so no one will be left out.

To dine outside or in, that is the question. Photo Courtesy Carter Creek.

Right next to the tasting room, guests can dine indoors or out (we recommend the vibe outside) at Old 290 Brewery. This restaurant provides a robust menu with hearty options like oven-baked pizzas, chicken fried steak, and some great truffle fries – perfect for pairing with a craft beer from the brewery or a bottle of wine from the winery (you can bring bottles of Carter Creek wines into the restaurant).

A large courtyard sits right outside the restaurant, with adirondack chairs and live music on the weekends.

A candlelit massage, hot sauna, and a glass of wine… A deal you cannot resist. Photo Courtesy Carter Creek.

The Spa at Carter Creek is the latest addition, which opened in April 2022. It’s a small location but packs a big punch! Treat yourself to a massage with enhancements, such as a back and foot scrub or a scalp massage. Wrapped in the citrusy scent of blood orange, this is a treatment to remember! Following your massage, relax with a complimentary glass of wine or sit in the hot sauna – or both (just not at the same time)!

Guests can enjoy the outdoor pool and hot tub, a fitness center, take a hike through the nearby trails or have a relaxing stroll through the vineyards. Dogs are welcome on the property and would make a great hiking or strolling companion.

Carter Creek winery is located in central Texas, so it makes for easy travel from all corners of Texas.

We featured Carter Creek in 2021 as one of our favorite dog-friendly resorts in Texas. You can read all about it here.
