No matter what part of the state you live in, summer in Texas will have you changing up your beauty routine to beat the heat. Keep your look fresh with these tips from Houston beauty experts who will have you looking good from your head to your toes.

Hair

Everyone loves a good blowout and Drybar founder Alli Webb has tips and tricks for keeping your hair looking stylish and fresh for summer. “Healthy hair always looks best. Make sure to use heat protectant vitamin rich spray to keep locks shiny and hydrated. Also, style your hair in a more textured style that can withstand the heat and moisture in the air – the Drybar Mai Tai is perfect for that look,” said Webb.

Dry shampoo is everyone’s friend in the summer and it works even better if you keep it about four inches away from your head. Also, Webb cautions to not forget the hairline and the nape of your neck for an all-over clean look. “My biggest piece of advice for summer beauty is to give yourself a thorough, section by section blowout so it lasts for days versus having to wash your hair every day,” said Webb. “It will not only save you time, but also keep your hair healthier.”

Lashes

Bat those lashes, ladies. Are you worried that beach and pool time will take a toll on your eyelash extensions? Amanda Vu and Lisa Pham, co-owners of the Lash Lounge Memorial Green have advice to keep your summer lash extensions not only looking good, but staying on longer. Extensions need more TLC in the summer because of heat and increased humidity. Sweating can break down the bond of the lash adhesive,” they explained. To make your lashes last longer in the summer, the pair advises, preschedule your refills every two weeks, upgrade to volume lashes so they will stay fuller longer and wear a lash sealant. Vu and Pham warn not to pull at your lashes, try to sleep on your back and don’t use oil-based products around your eyes.

Non-Invasive Cosmetic Procedures

Bikini season is upon us, and Dr. Basu, a Houston-based plastic surgeon has several non-invasive procedures that will have you ready and poolside in no time. “Aside from injectables like Botox and lip enhancers, our most popular procedure right now is BodyTite PRO which uses radiofrequency technology to help tighten loose skin,” said Basu. “We are the first practice in Texas with the BodyTite PRO machine. It is state of the art.”

The FDA-approved procedure lasts one to two hours and is done under local anesthesia. The electromagnetic energy from BodyTite PRO heats and contracts the skin allowing for a smoother look, which continues to improve over 12 months. “This is different from liposuction which is very invasive,” said Basu. “This cutting edge technology will have patients bikini-ready in a matter of weeks. It really is a game changer in minimally invasive procedures.”

Feet

Flip-flop weather has everyone showing off their newest nail polish color, but what if your nails aren’t as healthy as they should be? ZapNails Medispa might be the answer to perfect summer feet. “One of the biggest mistakes I see in the summer is women who cover up their nail problems with acrylic nails. What they don’t know is that they could be making their problem even worse,” said Annie Enriquez, Director of Operations at ZapNails Medispa.

Your manicurist might be trying to help, but Enriquez warns that if you exhibit nail discoloration, flakiness or nail thickening you might have onychomycosis, also known as nail fungus. “Our advice is to always visit a board-certified podiatrist who can diagnose the problem.” If it is onychomycosis, ZapNails can help. “Our licensed medical aesthetician and laser professionals treat the fungus with the PinPointe Foot Laser and offer customized treatment plans based on the severity of the problem,” said Enriquez. “Most of our patients see results after one 30-minute session and continue to see results over time.”
