“The Gulf views and beachfront property were all I needed to see to know Cinnamon Shore was where we would build our family’s seaside oasis.”

In 2015, Lynn Peters began searching for a family vacation home when she discovered Cinnamon Shore on Mustang Island, Port Aransas, just minutes from Corpus Christi. For two months, Peters, a renowned architect and interior designer in San Antonio, carefully designed every detail of her beachfront retreat, creating panoramic views of the Texas Gulf coast visible from the many over-sized windows. Her home took just one year to complete and, in 2016, she affectionately named it ‘Barefoot Beach.’

Walking into the three-story property, Barefoot Beach guests are greeted by an open floor plan that is flooded with natural light.

One of Barefoot Beach’s most eye-catching features is its grand staircase with step risers encrusted with glistening seashells. As guests walk up the stairs, they are greeted with breathtaking Gulf views. “As a central design element, the house needed to make a statement with an attention-grabbing ‘wow’ factor. The dark hardwood floors contrast beautifully with the alabaster shells, and are illuminated by three bold pendant light fixtures,” said Peters.

With five bedrooms and four and a half baths, each floor has its own family room and wet bar for entertaining. When creating the home, Peters imagined a functional space for a multi-generational family where all ages could feel included, yet have their own area and space to roam.

The third-story ceiling is made from reclaimed wood trusses sourced from an abandoned Ohio barn, adding an unexpected rustic element to the house. Intricate tile work adorns each wet bar and bathroom backsplashes, extending the marine motif throughout the house.

The master bath is one of the most dramatic spaces in the house, with a free-standing bathtub framed by floor-to-ceiling tile work in an array of ocean-blue hues. When furnishing her home, Peters concentrated on functionality and durability as much as on beauty. She chose pieces that can withstand the wear and tear of years of family gatherings and renters.  

“The house is carefully decorated but is meant to be lived in and enjoyed. I want our family and guests to feel welcome and not afraid to enjoy the space,” explained Peters. “I chose pieces that are not only durable but also embrace the beach vacation aesthetic.”

Since building and designing her home at Cinnamon Shore, Peters has been named one of three architects and interior designers who will serve buyers in Cinnamon Shore South, which broke ground in October 2018. With a creative eye, keen instincts and focus on detail, Peters helps bring not only her own but also others’ dreams to life through her attention to detail and architectural experience.
