To ensure a rich experience, the Visitor Center is the first stop to check out as the mission offers daily Ranger-guided programs at 10 a.m. & 11 a.m., giving you a chance to ask questions and listen to captivating stories and insights from true experts. Rangers around the park love to walk around, ready to talk about the missions or occasionally  demonstrate age-old skills like spinning wool or using an atlatl. Also within the Visitor Center, you can find opportunities for people of all ages to engage with the history before your exploration as the park provides Junior Ranger Activity Books, a park orientation film within the theater giving viewers an overview of mission life, and a display of historic artifacts to learn about.

THE HEART OF THE MISSION

The centerpiece of Mission San Jose is its awe-inspiring church adorned with intricate carvings and the soaring bell towers that take over the skyline. Visitors have a chance to step inside to discover the beautifully painted frescoes, and the serene atmosphere that the lively church provides. From its inception in 1797, the parish continues to remain active and even offers a Mariachi Choir mass at 12 p.m. on Sundays for those looking to immerse themselves in a unique way.
