It’s time to pack your bags and head west to Alpine, the rooftop garden of Texas and the  gateway to the Big Bend. April is a perfect time to see the blooming Chihuahuan Desert under  one of the darkest night skies on our continent and catch the semiannual Historic Alpine Ghost  Tour on April 13th, 14th & 15th.  

Historic Alpine, led by Abbey Branch, and Sul Ross Theatre program, led by Marjorie Scott, has  produced an award-winning theatrical ghost tour featuring the folklore and local history of  Alpine, Texas.  

The carefully curated tour combines local folklore, ghost stories, theater, comedy, and  documented history of Historical Alpine, Texas. Tours begin at the Reata Restaurant and include  stops at historical landmarks such as the Brewster County Courthouse, the Alpine Avalanche  Building, and the Ritchey Hotel and are led by Brett Scott, Associate Professor of  Communication and professional director and editor in Alpine, Texas, who spent a decade at  Second City in Chicago.  

“The tours promote the rich history of Alpine while also enjoying some ghost stories from the  Big Bend region,” said Marjie Scott, Ghost Tour director and Chair of the Sul Ross Fine Arts  Department. “And there may be some actual ghost sightings too.” All proceeds from the tours  will are donated to SRSU Theatre scholarships.  

About the Tour: 

The tour kicks off at the famous Reata Restaurant with a spooky cocktail starring several  famous Texans, including Crystal Holland, who was murdered in front of the Historic Holland  Hotel in 1916, and Harvey Hughes, who was hanged on the lawn of the Brewster County  Courthouse in 1923, one of the last legal hangings in Texas. Additionally, heroes from local  folklore pay a visit and warm our souls. Following the tour, guests are invited to enjoy a  complimentary nightcap at The Holland, one of the four far-west Texas famous hotels designed  by Henry C. Trost who designed the Gage in Marathon, The Paisano in Marfa and Hotel El  Capitan in Van Horn as well as the first floor of the famous Driskill in Austin.
