The setting sun casts an orange glow over Lake Texoma while the sounds of live music mingle with the voices of people enjoying a night cap in the Whiskey Bar. It’s the perfect ending to a fun-filled day at the Tanglewood Resort.

If you’re looking for a relaxing retreat, then look no further than the Tanglewood Resort located just north of Dallas/Fort Worth near the Oklahoma border. Tanglewood overlooks beautiful Lake Texoma and offers guests a relaxing getaway with rounds of golf on their Arnold Palmer-designed golf course, pampering treatments in the spa, and a romantic evening with drinks in the Tower Whiskey Bar overlooking the lake at sunset.

Tanglewood Resort just completed a major renovation from the inside-out, from new menus in their restaurants, including a world-class steakhouse, refurbished guest rooms and condos, to renovations of the resort’s pools, and upgrades to the Arnold Palmer-designed golf course.

Accommodations

The garden jacuzzi tub is just one of the special features you’ll find in the well-appointed Master Villa.

Guests at the resort have a variety of options to choose from for accommodations, including some pet-friendly options if you wish to bring along your dog. Hotel rooms are located in the main resort complex, including six classy, themed suites located in their iconic Tower… like the James Bond Suite, Elvis Presley Suite, or Marilyn Monroe Suite to name a few. Just a short walk from the main resort complex, you’ll find The Villas with luxury spacious condos that are perfect for families. The Master Villa has a living room, a fully-equipped kitchen, dining room and Master bedroom with a king-sized bed and large bathroom with a garden jacuzzi tub. The Double Queen Villa has a kitchenette and table for two. You can also combine the two for a large Luxury Villa that sleeps eight.

Dining

Be sure to make reservations in advance for a romantic dinner in the Lakeview Steakhouse

The Lakeview Steakhouse offers a romantic evening of delicious food and wine with a scenic view of Lake Texoma. The Seafood Platter is a great starter that can easily be shared by two couples. The Peppercorn Filet was tender, cooked to perfection, and served with the standard steakhouse choice of sides. For dessert we could not resist ordering the Red Velvet Cheesecake. It was as delicious as it sounds, although we were so full by then that we ended up taking most of it back to our room to enjoy the next day.

The delicious Seafood Platter is listed as an appetizer but offers plenty to share with jumbo gulf shrimp, sea scallops, crab fingers, brie cheese, roasted bell pepper and a whole grain mustard sauce. (Photo Wendi Baird)

The Tanglewood Bar & Grill is open for lunch and dinner, as well as cocktails. It has both indoor and outdoor seating on the patio overlooking the pool.

After dinner, make your way to the Tower Whiskey Bar, located on the 8th floor of Tanglewood Resort’s iconic Tower, for a nightcap and live music with an unforgettable sunset view of Lake Texoma. Whiskey enthusiasts will be pleased to find over 40 curated single malt and blended whiskeys to choose from.

Tranquility Spa

For the ultimate in relaxation, visit the Tranquility Spa located in a separate building near the pools. We opted for a 50-minute Hot Stone Couples Massage followed by a Tropical Smoothie Facial for an afternoon of pampering. The spa treatments were the perfect escape from reality, and I felt like I was walking on air when I left.

Recreation

Tanglewood guests can enjoy swimming or laying out by the three-tiered pool while drinking a cold cocktail from the Tiki Bar.

Next to the pool are several pergolas with comfortable seating arrangements, as well as an outdoor stage for live musical entertainment.

Golf enthusiasts will appreciate playing a round on the recently renovated 18-hole golf course. Newly-sodded tee boxes, repaired greens and an updated irrigation system have these links in tip-top shape.

Lake Texoma

Tanglewood Resort is located on Lake Texoma, the fourth largest lake in Texas. While the resort offers some spectacular views of the lake, guests may want to enjoy some activities on the water. Lake Texoma is home to some of the best striped bass fishing around. If fishing is not your thing, you can enjoy a charter cruise around the lake like the one offered by Fastrac Charters and Cruises. Just a short drive from the Tanglewood Resort, Fastrac offers dinner tours, public lake tours and private charters.
