Cotton Court in Lubbock is the perfect layover on the way to Colorado.

We just love the Valencia Group’s selection of motor court style hotels spread around Texas. You’ve heard us talk before about Lone Star Court in Austin’s Domain and Cavalry Court in College Station. The newest kid on the Valencia Hotel block is Lubbock’s Cotton Court Hotel.

With design elements that pay homage to Lubbock’s cotton warehouses and agriculture heritage as well as the area’s musical roots, Cotton Court Hotel is a unique boutique hotel experience. Relax in the open courtyard or lounge by the outdoor swimming pool with your favorite cocktail. The outdoor space leaves plenty of room for social distancing. Photo courtesy Cotton Court

We are fans of this stop on the way to Colorado or New Mexico, as it’s approximately six hours from Central Texas. With the addition of the Cotton Court, which opened in fall 2020, downtown Lubbock has a hip hotel with all the vibes of the ATX.

Valencia Group models their vintage motor court hotels on a theme befitting the area. The Cotton Court honors the long-standing cotton industry of North Texas with its distinctive cotton gin motif.

Most of the rooms here open to the outside. (Although, they do have an interior section that houses their 1,600 square foot presidential suite.) That’s a great choice during the pandemic because you can check in and head straight to your own room without navigating long, internal hallways.

The deluxe courtyard rooms are ample size and include the vintage vibe of the hotel series. (Including the retro SMEG refrigerators stocked with Texas craft beers and other regional drinks.) The stylish interior courtyard includes a pool, outdoor fire pit and games like corn hole.

The onsite restaurant, Midnight Shift, starts with breakfast (from 6 to 10am), offering a simple menu that includes delicious pancakes, biscuits and gravy, or a typical American breakfast. Later, there’s lunch service, and dinner service goes until 10am. To the joy of night owls, the accompanying bar is vibing until midnight.

More than just a place to stay, Cotton Court offers a place where you can create memorable moments. Urban, playful and inspired, this new hotel invites you to discover what makes Lubbock the place to be. Photo courtesy Cotton Court

Guests will enjoy the Cotton Court’s signature scent called “cypress and suede” and can even take it home. Purchase it in the small gift shop in either an aromatic mist or candle.

So many Texans make a road trip to Colorado, all seasons of the year. This is our current number one selection for a stop overnight. We love everything about this cool property, from the well-lit courtyard to the clean and modern rooms with comfy beds including plush pillow top beds with locally sourced luxurious cotton linens. It’s the perfect place to lay your head on your next Colorado road trip.
