Looking for a relaxing glamping site with unbelievable views of the Texas Hill Country and Lake LBJ?

Whether for a romantic getaway, a girls weekend, an intimate wedding venue, a relaxing solo trip, or a yoga and meditation retreat, you’ve found your haven at Hozhoni on the Hill

About an hour from downtown Austin, Hozhoni on the Hill is perched on the tallest hilltop in the area with majestic 360 degree views of the Texas Hill Country. Accommodation

Located in central Texas in a city called Cottonwood Shores, an hour northwest from Austin, Hozhoni on the Hill can sleep about 26 people. Here, between Marble Falls and Horseshoe Bay, you’ll find the unique site of three stacked shipping containers that house six glamping (glamorous camping) accommodations.

The site includes three luxury safari canvas tents, two suites made from shipping containers, and the main attraction of the site, the Stardome – a 16-foot clear room, 30 feet in the air, allowing you to sleep comfortably under the stars.

The Eagle’s Nest Retreat has a large private deck, private restroom, indoor/outdoor shower and an outdoor star-soaking tub. This luxury safari tent includes a king-size bed, mini fridge, microwave and coffee maker. Rates start at 245/night weekdays, 295/night weekends. Photo Gracie Watt

The Story of Hozhoni

“A place like this is all about creating memories,” says Bob Eveleth, one of the founders of Hozhoni on the Hill.

The site was created by Eveleth and business partner Marley Porter, who has designed some of the most interesting, and successful, wedding venues in the Austin area including Chapel Dulcinea, One World Theatre and Barr Mansion.

Hozhoni is a Navajo word meaning Balance-Being-Beauty, all things present within this restful and rejuvenating stay. Wind chimes scattered throughout set the mood for a peaceful escape, and the Stardome suite comes with a balcony, fireplace, comfortable patio furniture, and even an outdoor bath. Moonlit bath under the stars, any one?

If this leads to privacy concerns for you, we can assure you, there’s nothing to worry about. The whole glamping site is secluded and far from the city, and the Stardome is tucked up high and  out of sight. (Still nervous? Just draw the curtains for added privacy.)

The Stardome is the perfect spot for glamping (glamorous camping). Everyone has heard of five star hotel rooms—Hozhoni on the Hill has the Stardome, a Five Billion Star room! Book your stay to sleep under the stars. Photo Gracie Watt

The Stardome

Apart from amenities like the relaxing shower, Keurig machine, mini fridge and microwave plus a comfy king bed, the Stardome suite’s telescope also helped us enjoy our stay. It can get hot in the suite during the day (hooray for the AC) but is the perfect temperature at night for sleeping under the stars.

If you decide to stay in the Stardome (which you should!) keep the doors closed as much as possible to prevent those pesky Texas bugs from getting in. Also, make sure to try and match the inside temperature to the outside temperature at nighttime to avoid condensation. That’ll make for optimal viewing of the moon and the 5 billion stars above.

Chapel Hozhoni

The big swing right next to the Chapel Hozhoni overlooks the beautiful views and is a very Instagram worthy spot! This part of the site  was designed as an homage to the Navajo natives that settled the area long ago.

Even equipped with an Instagram-ready swing, Hozhoni on the Hill is the perfect Texas Hill Country venue for your destination retreat. You’ll find everything from yoga retreats, weddings, family reunions, business retreats and more here. Photo Gracie Watt

The chapel, a fabric and steel tipi, hovers over a giant stone monolith called The Rock of Faith. Arching up to an uncompromising full-circle view, the chapel has open scenery of water, rock and sky. Adjacent to the chapel is the pavilion, where 100+ family and friends can gather in celebration under the shaded area for dining, dancing and music. Views open in every direction from atop this private paradise, making a lovely venue for an intimate wedding.

Exploring the Neighborhood

While Hozhoni on the Hill is primarily for lodging, there are a few activities, stores and restaurants nearby that you can easily walk to. If you leave anything behind or want to pick up some games or value-priced wine, Dollar General is a four minute walk away. Also in walking distance is a cute boutique called The Market Place

At the very top of the Glampominium is The Stardome Suite, perched 101 feet over Horseshoe Bay on a huge private deck. Rates for the Stardome Suite start at 295/night weekdays, 375/night weekends. Photo Gracie Watt

Dining & Delving

There are many options for dinner that are easy to walk to. LeStourgeon Seafood Co. is a friendly bar and restaurant with fresh seafood (as the location is right by Lake LBJ and the Colorado River). You’ll find Mexican food at Julie’s Cocina, Castle Rock Pizza, and the restaurant adjacent to Hozhoni on the Hill, Bay View Restaurant & Bar, is fancier and has a magnificent view. Pro Tip: Spend one of your sunset-watching nights there.

You can also get some relaxing treatment at The Spa on Par 3, hang out at the hipster haven Kynda Coffee, and much more, all a stroll away.

In nearby Marble Falls, you’ll find the Blue Bonnet Cafe, serving breakfast all day every day. As well as their famous pie, of course. Courtesy photo
