Skip the crowds of Cancun and find serenity just offshore on Isla Mujeres — Mexico’s peaceful “Island of Women.”

Just a 20-minute ferry ride from the mainland, this vibrant island offers authentic Mexican charm, turquoise waters, and a true sense of escape. At the heart of this paradise lies Almare, a new adults-only all-inclusive resort from Marriott’s Luxury Collection. With its refined design, exceptional service, and oceanfront views, Almare is the ultimate retreat for those seeking luxury, leisure, and just a little bit of magic.

Designed with comfort and style in mind, Almare’s guest rooms combine warm wood finishes with spa-inspired amenities and ocean-facing terraces. Photo courtesy Almare.

Side note:  While Almare is Mariott’s Luxury Collection first adult-only, all inclusive property, they have also opened Sanctuary Cap Cana in the Dominican Republic.  If the all-inclusive adult only setting is not what you are looking for, check out other Marriott Luxury properties in Cancun, such as the J.W. Marriott Cancun Resort & Spa that welcomes children. Cancun and Isla Mujeres are now a location where luxury properties are on the rise, elevating the destination’s style.

Getting There: Smooth Sailing from the Start

Touch down in Cancun on a flight from Texas that will just be a couple short hours, and take a pre-booked 30-minute transfer to the Renaissance Cancun Marina. From there, guests board a private ferry — complimentary and arranged via the Marriott Experience app — that whisks them directly to the shores of Isla Mujeres and into the arms of paradise. Think White Lotus, but more relaxed and with far fewer secrets.

First Impressions: Where Luxury Meets Tranquility

Open-air check-in sets the tone as guests are welcomed with a refreshing fruit drink while their bags are delivered to their rooms. Sleek, sand-toned décor rooted in Mayan design brings a sense of place and calm. Room keys come in the form of stylish bracelets — functional, fashionable, and beach-proof.

The Grand Suite is a standout, featuring a panoramic oceanfront balcony perfect for lounging with a book or soaking in the view. A retractable TV, plush bedding, and a stocked minibar ensure every comfort is met. It’s the kind of room that makes you reconsider your return flight.

Play and Pause: Activities for Every Mood

Whether you’re in the mood to move or meditate, Almare offers a variety of curated experiences — most of which are complimentary.

  • Poolside Perfection: Relax at the beachfront AlVento Beach Club or swim in one of two pools. The ground-level pool features The Breeze, a swim-up bar, while the rooftop infinity pool at Seasalt is ideal for sunset selfies.

  • Ocean Kayaking and Snorkeling: Paddle a two-person kayak as part of a guided tour toward the southern tip of the island, hop off your boat for a snorkeling session, and paddle back — three miles round trip of tropical adventure. Don’t worry about getting back on your kayak after the swim, the guides will help you (Complementary; reservations required.)

  • Salsa on the Sand: Dance off your margaritas in a lively salsa class hosted right on the beach, followed by a refreshing dip in the pool. (Complementary; reservations required.)
  • Cemetery Walk and Reflection: On a guided tour, stroll to a nearby cemetery rich in local culture and tradition. The burial sites are decorated in many colors with items that were special to those buried there. Tie a prayer ribbon at the chapel and reflect amidst colorful tributes. Umbrellas are provided for the walk to protect you from the sun. (Complementary; reservations required.)
  • Tequila Meets Chocolate: Sample various tequilas expertly paired with gourmet chocolates during an educational tasting experience. This event takes place in the lobby near the lobby bar ($1,500 MXN; reservations required.)

Spa Time: Stone Beds and Secret Showers

The Alma Spa is unlike any you’ve visited. Heated stone loungers replace standard spa beds in the relaxation space, while post-treatment you can immerse yourself in a hydrotherapy circuit featuring hot tubs, cold plunges, multi-temp showers, and a “bucket shower” that refreshes in a single splash. Bonus: the spa staff will warm your swimsuit while you’re being pampered.  Treatment options and prices are available in the hotel app.

A Culinary Tour of the Resort

Dining at Almare is as flexible as it is flavorful. Rotating restaurant options ensure variety, and reservations can be made easily via the resort app.

  • The Breeze Bar & Grill: Poolside casual fare and beachside service that hits the spot after a swim. Try the Full Moon cocktail which is a delicious combination of dark rum, passion fruit, basil syrup and ginger soda. The ensalada cesar al grill is an interesting take of a salad where the lettuce hearts are grilled. The ceviche verde is listed as an appetizer but is enough for a lunch serving. The blue shrimp is mixed with green mojo, tomato, onion, avocado and cilantro flower. For the meat lover, you can’t go wrong with the taco de rib eye al grill.
  • BOGA: Freshly squeezed juices, breezy breakfasts, and casual lunches in a relaxed indoor/outdoor setting. Take a morning swim then saunter over to this outdoor space for breakfast. Chilaquiles with a side of fruit will start your day right!
  • Seasalt: Rooftop dining under the stars, best enjoyed with a cocktail and the island’s best sunset views. There may be a flautist playing for dinner entertainment. Expect beautifully prepared gourmet dishes that are the right portion to allow room for dessert.  Start with the caprese and queso camembert rostizado. For the main dish the ravioli de wagyu mishima and veal agnolotti are good choices. For dessert there is lemon custard and chocolate pie with ice cream.
  • Botanik: Your go-to for espresso, pastries, and take-along sandwiches before an excursion off-site or just to eat and read a good book in the lobby.

  • Lobby Bar: Craft cocktails, local beer, and chilled wine in a stylish lounge atmosphere.  This is also a good place to order a drink to take to your room.

Prefer a private meal on your ocean-view balcony? Room service is always available.

Final Word: A Destination Worth Repeating

Almare is one of the newest additions to Marriott’s Luxury Collection, and it shows in every thoughtful detail — from the stunning design to the deeply relaxing ambiance. If you’re looking for an upscale, child-free escape with just the right balance of indulgence and exploration, Almare on Isla Mujeres is calling.

Packing Essentials: Insulated cup, reef-safe sunscreen, multiple swimsuits, resort attire and a sunhat.

Travel Tips: Arrange ground transportation before arrival. Get pesos in advance to avoid exchange fees — locals prefer cash, and your wallet will thank you.
