You don’t hear a whole lot about Jacksonville, a small town tucked into the “upper east side of Texas”—but that’s part of its charm.

Known proudly as the Tomato Capital of Texas, Jacksonville is quietly cultivating a new identity as a creative and wellness-minded enclave. Even influencers are calling it home.

At the heart of this unexpected destination is Hotel Ritual, a seven-bedroom Tudor-style mansion that feels equal parts historic estate and modern-day sanctuary. Built in 1932, the home began its newest chapter in 2018 when it was transformed into Hotel Ritual. After a devastating fire in 2020, the property was rebuilt through sheer determination, reopening in August 2025 as a fully realized wellness center.

This is not your typical bed-and-breakfast. While guests enjoy private rooms with shared bathrooms and a nourishing, health-forward breakfast, the real magic lies in the vision of owner Whitney Graham, a former medical school student whose path led her to ayurvedic healing and holistic wellness. That background informs everything at Hotel Ritual—from the treatments offered to the intentional pace of the stay.

The bathrooms alone are an attraction in their own right. Designed by Whitney and her mother, each space features a playful collage of wallpaper samples, creating a distinct personality in every bathroom. There’s a pink bathroom, a yellow one, and a blue one—each joyful, layered, and full of character. Room highlights include Bedroom Two with its own terrace and Bedroom Five, which opens onto a rooftop patio, perfect for a quiet morning or evening wind-down.

What truly sets Hotel Ritual apart is its spa and wellness focus. Guests can book treatments like the Aura Glow—far more than just a facial—along with lymphatic massage and more esoteric offerings such as shirodhara. Guests can also opt for treatment combinations that blend crystals, energy work, facial care, and massage—leaving you feeling refreshed, grounded, and genuinely shiny and happy.

A sauna is available to guests, and Whitney encourages pairing the experience with organic sesame oil massage while sitting in the heat. Outdoors, a pool and Jacuzzi hot tub complete the retreat-like atmosphere.

Just Down the Street

Just minutes away, downtown Jacksonville offers a nostalgic lunch stop at The Luncheonette, an old-fashioned yet beautiful restaurant beloved by locals. Order a classic BLT—naturally highlighting tomatoes—along with chicken salad or egg salad sandwiches. They’re also known for their house-made ice creams. But whatever you do, don’t leave without a slice of the famous strawberry cake.

Upstairs, a yoga studio hosts restorative yoga and sound bath sessions as the sun goes down. These sound baths feature an impressive collection of ten instruments, creating an experience that feels both grounding and transportive.

Music plays a starring role at Hotel Ritual. Parker Edmondson—known on social media as Dr. Parkinstine—hosts intimate house concerts that feel like stepping back into the 1920s. Dressed in vintage clothing to match the era, he performs swing music that brings the home’s history vividly to life. He boasts 1.2 million followers on TikTok (@drparkinstine), maintains an impressive YouTube presence, and has been featured in Vice magazine.
