Populus is a true love letter to the natural world. From the architects to the creative minds behind the project, every detail thoughtfully brings that vision to life.

Located in the heart of downtown Denver, bordering Civic Center Park, Populus draws inspiration from Colorado’s iconic aspen trees—intentionally curated to reflect their beauty while serving as an eco-friendly, sustainable social hub for the city.

From the moment you walk through the doors, you’re immersed in the essence of the forest floor. Design elements from Pasque and Little Owl set the tone, right down to the stunning front desk crafted from a tree. As you move upward through the hotel, the ambiance shifts—lighting becomes dimmer, textures deepen, and you feel as though you’re traveling through the trunk of a Colorado aspen. The journey culminates at Stellar Jay, the rooftop restaurant and bar that evokes the forest canopy and offers breathtaking views of the Denver skyline.

Where Style Meets Sustainability

As the country’s first carbon-positive hotel, Populus goes beyond net-zero emissions—they actively remove more carbon from the air than they emit. One standout initiative is their One Night, One Tree program. In partnership with the National Forest Foundation, a tree is planted for every night you stay at Populus—true ecotourism in action.

The hotel also partners with local farms to promote regenerative agricultural practices and composts all food waste, returning it to local farmers to nourish future harvests.

Where Modern Minimalism Meets Warm, Eco-Driven Comfort

The accommodations seamlessly continue the connection to nature while embracing comfort and modern minimalism. Each room is thoughtfully designed to maximize space and serenity. Whether you retreat to the cozy Grove and Aspen rooms or indulge in one of the luxurious suites, the essence of Populus remains consistent throughout.

The options are endless of the moments that can occur as you sit in your windowsill overlooking the city. Photo courtesy Populus.

We especially loved the Mountain Studio Suite, which offered multiple city views—particularly stunning at sunset. The signature windows are a standout feature and one of the many elements that truly sets Populus apart. Another thoughtful highlight is the minibar, stocked entirely with locally sourced items and clean, health-forward snacks—proof that at Populus, it’s truly the little details that make a difference.

Accommodations start at $299/night for guest rooms and $499 for suites.

With event spaces, meeting rooms, and inviting areas to work or gather, community is woven into every aspect of the experience. Its restaurants and coffee shop each play a distinct role, creating natural spaces for connection throughout the day.
