Escape the indecisive Texas weather and take a weekend trip to sunny Los Cabos, Mexico – you won’t regret it.
Feel like you’re in a movie at Montage Los Cabos
Los Cabos, Mexico is divided into two parts – San José and Cabo San Lucas. San José is the more quiet area, while Cabo San Lucas has more nightlife and marina activities. Nestled in between the two is the Montage resort, on the rocky coast of the Santa Maria Bay.
Walking through the lobby doors at the three-year-old Montage, it is clear that you are about to have a unique and special experience. While there are many special things about this lush resort, two stand outs are the head-turning views and the top-rated service by the resort team.
Experiences and excursions
Whether you are visiting the resort for a romantic getaway, a family vacation or a solo trip, there are activities here for all. Now with direct flights to Los Cabos through American Airlines, your trip can be the safest and most efficient possible. We recommend getting a window seat, as flying into Los Cabos will provide some of the most magnificent overhead views.
Visiting the Montage, you never even have to leave the resort if you don’t want to, as they offer water sports, a dive center, spas, roots rituals, tennis, snorkeling, and unique in-resort experiences. These experiences include a cocktail making class, tequila tasting, cooking classes and more. Montage is also the only resort in Los Cabos that offers a scuba diving certification course.
However, if you do decide to venture beyond the lobby doors, the resort’s Compass Sports Center can help plan unforgettable excursions. They have many options when it comes to adventure, such as surfing, taking out boats, driving an ATV through a waterfall and so much more. If they do not already have the experience you are looking for, they can even curate one specifically for you.
Comfortable resort amenities
Within the Montage, guests can find impressive landscaping, traditional Mexican architecture and 122 rooms, with ultimate privacy and ocean or coastal views. There are also three pool areas – a family, serenity pool, and adults-only pool, complete with hot tubs and a swim-up bar.
The spa was the cherry on top of a relaxing weekend, as they use traditional Baja methods for ultimate relaxation. This spa has a steam room, a cold or heated pool, relaxation rooms, pampering stations and more. They offer many different massages based on need, but I would recommend the Four Hands CBD Oil Massage, though not for the inflexible as there is some stretching involved.
The resort has lodging options in the form of rooms, suites, casas and even residencies – all which have a unique flair and view. My stay in a deluxe ocean view king room was the perfect fit, but depending on the nature of your stay, Montage will have options for you. The casas are adorable and spacious for large family gatherings, wedding parties and more. Each room guarantees service, comfort and privacy.
Los Cabos culinary tour
You also don’t have to leave the resort to find high-quality food with diverse options. Marea is an open air seaside dining experience, known for their raw bar and Baja ingredients. Talay made me feel like I had a piece of Austin with me in Los Cabos, as the outdoor seating and food trucks serve up street food inspired by Thailand. Paletas is named after the traditional Mexican popsicle treat, as they serve these alongside a full coffee bar, small bites and hand-crafted gifts. Finally, Mezcal is the resort’s signature restaurant, and after eating here it is clear to see why. The live music and unique interpretations of Mexico’s culinary traditions will transform your dining experience.
If you do wish to dine beyond the resort, Flora Farms is one of the highest rated restaurants in Los Cabos, with a beautiful vast landscape and unforgettable food. Montage even offers transportation through chauffeur services to and from the airport and anywhere else you may venture. This option will ensure that your stay is safe, no matter where you decide to go. The food of Los Cabos stood out a lot, so keep an eye out for a more in-depth article on the destination’s cuisine.
Whale watching weather
Many locals of the Los Cabos area will tell you that the best time to visit is from December to April. The reason behind this is a huge one – whales. These months are prime whale watching time, as the magnificent humpbacks have migrated over 3,000 miles from Alaska to raise their young in the warm waters of Los Cabos.
Hop on a speedboat tour with Cabo Adventures to see these creatures breach periodically. This excursion is not for the impatient, as whales, of course, have a mind of their own. However, once they splash their giant tails it makes all the waiting worth it.
You may even go out on a sunrise kayak provided by Montage and test your luck in seeing the beautiful ‘ballenas.’ If you are lucky like I was, you may even get up close and personal enough to give you an adrenaline rush on this breathtaking kayaking tour. However, no matter what time of year you are able to visit, Cabo Adventures has many diverse experiences like camel riding, swimming with dolphins and much more.
Checking out of Montage Los Cabos will only leave you wanting more, but you can grab a souvenir from gift shop Eclectic Array to always remember your stay, where they have handmade creations from over 200 Mexican artisans. Here you can find little animal figurines called Alebrijes, which are considered good luck to anyone who holds them.
