Dispelling the ominous portent of the date, Park and Palate kicks off its third year of food festivities Friday the 13th with a riveting ‘Pillars and Protégés’ themed weekend at Dallas’ Klyde Warren Park. A Friday dinner for park VIPs, sponsors and donors, will be followed by a glowing lineup of chefs for Saturday’s Grand Taste which will provide the public with an opportunity to support the park’s ability to continue hosting hundreds of free events annually.
With general admission tickets priced at $75 and VIP priced at $150, guests can expect an unprecedented styling to this year’s exhibition. Carrying a theme that matches teacher and student, Pillars and Protégés is sure to ignite even the most defined palate in town. Veteran chefs were allowed to choose other chefs, friends, or protégés to combine talents with the end result being a daring collaboration of taste.
Festival goers will be able to entertain pairings from teams such as San Antonio’s Jeff Balfour of Southerleigh and Tim Keating from Disney’s Flying Fish Café, Jason Dady of his namesake restaurant group and Diego Galicia of Mixtli Progressive Mexican Culinaria with Luis Colon of Folc, Austin’s Page Pressley of Emmer & Rye partnering with James Dumapit from Old Thousand, Philip Speer from the newly opened Bonhomie and Tyson Cole of Uchi fame, and Dallas’ Nick Hurry from Proof & Pantry and Omar Flores of Whistle Britches, and Peja Krstic from the fashionable Một Hai Ba, among many other notables.
Partaking of sensational food should not go without mentioning that an equally impressive list of alcohol will be in abundance. Beer, wine and liquor from regional, national and global purveyors like Community Beer Company, Duckhorn Vineyards, Tullamore Dew, and Yellow Rose distilling will be among those on hand fulfilling their duty to keep the revelry high and whistles wet.
Vice president of Fine Wine Texas at Republic National Distributing Company, Leon Cikota, said, “We’re excited to be a part of Klyde Warren Park’s annual fundraiser for the third year, and to host such an exciting culinary experience with world-class wines and spirits.”
Guests will also have the opportunity to join special wine seminars as well as pop-up bars from local favorites inside the Savor Gastropub. The schedule for the Grand Taste seminars and pop-up bars is as follows:

The Grand Taste takes place Saturday, October 14 at Klyde Warren Park, located at 2012 Woodall Rodgers Freeway in downtown Dallas. Buy tickets now ($75 general admission/$125 VIP) as they will not be sold at the door. Proceeds benefit Klyde Warren Park, which is managed by the nonprofit Woodall Rodgers Park Foundation.
