Tech-savvy Gen Z-ers will exchange social media influencers for notable young adult authors at the 11th annual Texas Teen Book Festival in Georgetown October 12.
The Texas Teen Book Festival (TTBF) promotes life-long reading and writing while also encouraging struggling readers by connecting teens to local and award-winning authors, whose writing spans genres and interest levels.

Throughout the jam-packed festival day, fans will be entertained with author sessions and panels, book signings and workshops which are perfect for readers of all ages.
Mary H.K. Choi, culture correspondent of “Vice News Tonight” and New York Times bestselling author, will discuss her newest novel, “Permanent Record,” a witty, heartfelt romance featuring the inescapable influence of social media on everyday life. This year’s keynote speakers are poet and novelist Erika L. Sánchez along with writer, comedian and YouTuber Akilah Hughes.

Among the other award-winning authors teenage literary fans can expect at the TTBF are Alex Temblador, David Yoon, Gabby Rivera, Abdi Nazemian, Christopher Myers and Lauren Shippen. “I am so excited about our phenomenal lineup this year,” says Texas Teen Book Festival Program Director Meghan Goel. “Featuring a dynamic slate of books that range from terrifying thrillers to star-crossed romances to epic fantasies, it truly offers something for every reader.
Events throughout the day include a costume contest, 90-Second Newbery Film Festival, and the Penguin Teen Game Night in the iTent.
First organized in 2009 by librarian Heather Schubert and BookPeople, the festival continues to grow every year giving fans the opportunity to mingle with some of the most popular and critically acclaimed young adult authors in the country.
The 2019 Texas Teen Book Festival is October 12 at Southwestern University in Georgetown and is free and open to readers of all ages.
