Lodgewell has curated the best homes for hanging out, celebrating or even a simple change of scene.

If you’re following our Escape — To Nowhere series, you know we’re looking to show you where you can go to get a change of scenery and feel good about your social distancing, are able to cook in your own kitchen, and stay as far away from others as you wish.

Home rental company Lodgewell has a carefully curated collection of properties around Central Texas for the picking, very dependent on your style and what you’re looking for in an escape. Each one is unique in its geography and vibe.

Top Pick for a Girls’ Weekend: The Good Morning Ranch, Wimberley

What about a shabby chic farmhouse in the middle of nowhere, yet near Wimberley—which offers a boutique-packed town square right along the river? We love this choice for a girls’ weekend escape due to the layout, the location and the overall design.

The perfect place for social distancing on a girls’ trip while getting a rustic change of scenery, The Good Morning Ranch is a comfortable stay near Wimberley.

The Good Morning Ranch can comfortably accommodate 9 but if you want everyone to have their own bed (a pandemic safety measure), there are 7 beds (two queens, five singles).

Down an old country road, you’ll find the farmhouse, which doesn’t look like much from outside but is adorably decorated (it has an endearing rustic hipster flavor) and aptly appointed inside. Downstairs, you have a full kitchen, living room, the master with a queen and half bath, another bedroom with two singles and a separate full bathroom. (The only full bath, so be prepared in terms of sharing and having showering shifts!) A screened-in porch has a long dining table and is ideal for catching a breeze without the bugs.

Upstairs, you’ll find a loft with a daybed and one bedroom hosting a queen, a set of (small) bunk beds and a couch. There’s no bathroom upstairs, which is a consideration.

Outdoors, you’ll enjoy a spectacular Hill Country view, a small trough soaking tub, Adirondack chairs, a swing and a fire pit. (Bring your own firewood.)

Don’t forget to bring your camera to Good Morning Ranch, as the rolling hills of Wimberley are right outside your door just waiting to be captured.

Local attractions include the famous Jacob’s Well Natural Area (book a reservation online as early as possible as some get their spots a few months in advance and they are restricting admittance to 30 at a time), Wimberley’s town square featuring shops (including the adorable Senior Citizen Craft Shop), dining and bars along the Cypress Creek Nature Preserve, and Blue Hole Regional Park, with a wooded swimming area.

Top Pick for a Getaway with Other Families: The Shorewood on Lake LBJ

Who doesn’t love a great view of the water—its calm is palpable all throughout the year. We adore The Shorewood on Lake LBJ that easily accommodates three families.

This waterfront oasis is a great place to stage a getaway weekend with friends, enjoy quality time with family, or host a small work retreat. Chill out and relax on The Shorewood’s patio, of course with an amazing view! Photo courtesy Lodgewell

This two-level home is ideal for several families to enjoy a relaxing weekend on the water together. The hero of the house is a large living room with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the lake. Also on the top floor are two bedrooms, one with a queen bed and the other with a king bed, which have a shared bathroom in between. There is a full kitchen and dining area also on the top floor, with a fireplace as the backdrop.

With 2 stories, 3,600 square feet and 3 separate living rooms, you’ll have more room than you’ll know what to do with at The Shorewood. Just look at this spacious living area. Photo courtesy Lodgewell

Down the stairs, you will find a newly-renovated large open game room, perfect for teens and kids in the group. They’ll have hours of fun with the pingpong table, board games, and their own big screen TV in the bunk room which can sleep up to 10 kids (as long as they share a double bed bunk). There’s also a master bedroom downstairs with an ensuite bath. We love the staircase that goes from the downstairs master to the second floor, which feels like a super secret back way.

There’s nothing like a Shorewood sunset over the water of Lake LBJ. Sit back and enjoy the candle-lit view with loved ones. Photo courtesy Lodgewell

The location is perfect to enjoy the great outdoors, as it opens up to a backyard that sits right on Lake LBJ, where you can easily dock a boat or jet ski. Young people might also enjoy fishing or swimming off the dock. The house is pet-friendly and we love that the yard is enclosed so you can let your sweet furry friend run around without worry.

The Shorewood is basically one big wet and wild playground for ages 5 to 95. Play Monopoly in the game room, tell ghost stories at night in the bunk room, or try new watersports on Lake LBJ from the dock. Photo courtesy Lodgewell

Each of the three bedrooms sleeps two plus the bunk room which makes it perfect for families to celebrate or relax together. We really love the vintage vibe upstairs in the lake house—a flashback to a big family home on the waterfront that we enjoyed as kids in the ‘70s and ‘80s.

In future weeks, we’ll be bringing you our picks for other outings brought to you by the always-fabulous Lodgewell so stay tuned.
