Thanks to her dynamic personality and creative drive, Coline Creuzot has built a strong reputation as one of the most talented R&B songwriters in the industry – and has an impressive resume of collaborations to back it up.
Hailing from Houston, singer/songwriter Coline Creuzot fell in love with music at a young age, and knew she was destined for greatness.
The Texas-born star has worked with some of H-Town’s hottest artists, such as Slim Thug, Lil Keke, Z-Ro and Paul Wall. Known for her rich, soulful pipes, and lyrical storytelling, Creuzot has received acclaim from several publications, such as BET, Essence, VIBE, and being called “an artist at the forefront” by Ebony Magazine.
Creuzot was introduced to Happy Perez, a fellow Houstonian and producer who has worked with Miguel, Mariah Carey and Frank Ocean to name a few. They collaborated on a song called ‘Give and Take,’ which climbed all the way to number 1 on the Houston Radio Charts. The success of the song granted Creuzot some amazing opportunities to open for some of the biggest superstars in the world, such as Drake, Keyshia Cole, Monica and Tank.
Her new single “For Love” was just released in Summer 2022. (Watch Creuzot’s new video for “For Love” here!)
We caught up with the Houston-born native to discuss her latest single as well as her experience in the industry.
Tell us a little about your upbringing in Houston.
I was born and raised in Houston. I grew up in third ward and have always had a love for music and performing. I was a part of a few girl groups starting off and was also part of the gospel choir at Lamar High School. I recorded my first song when I was in High School.
What made you decide to pursue music full time?
Being a (music) artist has always been my dream. I can honestly say I’ve never considered any other path. It is a requirement in my family to go to college. So, upon graduating from Lamar High School, I chose to attend Hampton University. I was determined to get in and out so that I could continue pursuing my music full time. I graduated in 3 years (taking 21 hours a semester & lots of summer school) while still writing and recording. After graduating I moved back to Houston and released my first single within months of being back home, then the journey began.
What was it like opening for and collaborating with some of the most talented artists and producers in the industry?
It’s been amazing being able to open for some of my favorite artists! Very inspiring and fun. Happy Perez is one of the first producers I ever worked with. He produced my very first single and has been such a blessing to my artistry and career.
Tell us about your Billboard-charting single “For Love.”
“For Love” was written about my husband. It talks about our journey and the song is a celebration of love in general. I wanted to write something fun, inspiring and uplifting that people could dance to. I collaborated with Major League Beats (who has produced a lot of my latest singles). My Dad’s side of the family is from New Orleans and I wanted to tap into the New Orleans culture with the bounce beat. It was something fun and different for me.
Where do you draw inspiration from?
I draw inspiration from life. I write about things that I am going through or have gone through. My music is definitely rooted in my personal experiences.
Aside from music, what do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I love spending time with my family and working out! Fitness is a huge part of my daily life and routine.
What’s next for Coline Creuzot?
More music and touring! I am looking forward to releasing new music (an EP) soon and hitting the road to perform all of the new music!
