Out by the Galveston Bay, just minutes from Porretto Beach on Seawall Blvd., is a beachside boutique that beckons travelers and locals alike.

Brought to you by one of the finest design firms in Austin, along with a collection of Houston masterminds in cocktails and cuisine, Hotel Lucine is the beach getaway you never knew you wanted. This revitalized 1960s motor court is a celebration of mid-century nostalgia, approachable luxury, and local passion that is sure to be on your Texas bucket-list, year-round oceanside destination or weekend escape.

The Best Little Beach House in Texas

Originally built in the 1960s as Treasure Isle Motel, this low-slung 61-room boutique hotel went through its fair share of economic ups and downs before being adopted by a group of passionate local entrepreneurs. Soon, Austin-based design firm Kartwheel Studio restored the classic courtyard style, adding raw and weathered elements along with vibrant palettes.

One look around here and you’ll see that every piece is designed with purpose. From the brightly colored patio ceilings to the warm, rustic wood awnings above the courtyard, every exterior and interior detail juxtaposes a place that can be equal parts mid-century classic yet modern. Retro and refined. An ode to simpler times but with a future-forward sense of optimism.

The courtyard pool provides a spacious place for relaxation that is still within earshot of the ocean, allowing you to soak up the sun on a poolside lounge chair while listening to the crash of the foamy seawall.

What makes Hotel Lucine a unique local attraction is the dining and drink options coupled with an elegant, intimate environment. From the 3,500-square-foot rooftop bar to the fine-ish American cuisine served at the Fancy to the casual and contemporary options of the Den, Hotel Lucine is a Venn Diagram that overlaps tourist destinations and local hotspot with the best views and bites this part of the port has to offer.

A team of Texas’ top culinary leaders have brought an array of exquisite American and French inspired options to Hotel Lucine that will ensure you stay in rather than go out for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The Steak Frites Au Poivre and Thin-patty cheeseburger are sure to delight, and the expertly crafted cocktails are refreshing and tasty. What makes these drinks even more special is that so much is made in house, from the grenadine to the candied ginger. Hotel Lucine’s dedication to quality and craftsmanship shows in every bite and sip.

Be sure to take a moment on the rooftop bar and indulge in the 180-degree ocean views of the Gulf of Mexico. Make it an intimate evening with your better half or join friends for a round before heading into town for one of Galveston’s upcoming events. Or take a stroll on the beach that is just minutes away from the rust-colored red doors of Hotel Lucine.
