Recently, we had the exciting opportunity to sit down with Ashley West, a renowned social influencer and beauty professional from Dallas who has captured the hearts of over one million followers across her various platforms. 

Known affectionately as “Southern West Sunshine,” Ashley has built a vibrant online community by sharing her passion for beauty, fashion, and authentic lifestyle content. Her journey from a local beauty enthusiast to a prominent influencer exemplifies her dedication, creativity, and genuine connection with her audience.

Throughout our conversation, Ashley revealed the story behind her rise to fame and the driving forces that keep her motivated. Ashley, your journey from being a stay-at-home mom to a social media influencer with over 1.2 million followers is truly inspiring. Can you tell us what initially motivated you to start creating content online?

I had started creating content here and there before the pandemic but when I got pregnant with my son, Walker, in 2020, I had just left my job and craved community. With the encouragement of my husband, I started posting more and more, staying true to myself, and when I least expected it, my little community started growing and following along my journey as a new mom of two and beauty/fashion enthusiast! Five years later here we are over 1+ million strong. 

How do you balance your responsibilities as a mom with the demands of maintaining such a large social media presence?

My kids will always be my priority, so boundaries are everything to help balance the demand that comes from social media. Both my kids are in school, so during the day I’m able to handle my social media management, create and organize content, and engage with my community, but once they’re done with school I turn mom mode on. It’s worked for me so far, I try to be as present as possible and I honor how I’m feeling. If I need to take a social break because life gets too overwhelming, I give myself time to stay offline.

How has collaborating with other influencers impacted your content and growth?

It hasn’t impacted my content, I tend to create similar content when I do collaborate with my influencer friends, and it creates fun engagement in the comments.

Your content often reflects your authentic self and family life. How do you decide what to share with your audience while maintaining privacy and authenticity?

I never force my kids to be on my videos and allow them to express if they’re not feeling it, as I don’t want them to feel the pressure or invasion of privacy that comes with social media. My husband is also very supportive and shows up a lot but we have very set boundaries on what we’re okay with sharing and what we won’t share, and my audience has been very respectful of that. Keeping things for “just us” has been key. 

As a Texas native, how does your city influence your content and connect with your local followers?

I’m a proud Texan. Being able to be back in the city where I grew up, I think that my followers see that influence through my content. I love to show when we go to the ranch, the stockyards and local fave (aka Whataburger). A lot of my audience is based in the Texas area so they feel connected to my everyday life. 

With such a massive following, how do you handle the pressure of staying relevant and engaging your audience consistently?

I try to reply to comments and engage as much as possible. Without my community I wouldn’t be where I am today, so I make time to catch up with them through Q&As or giveaways, and they especially love vlogs, where I catch them up on life, which I feel creates an authentic connection to them. 

What has been the most rewarding moment of your influencer journey so far?

There have been many moments that remind me of my “why” in terms of creating content. Whether it’s a stay at home mom that messages me saying that I inspired her to start posting or it’s someone referring to me as their “big sister”- it’s incredibly rewarding. My biggest achievement here recently was being named the “2025 Beauty Influencer of the Year” by The Influence Agency which was voted on by my audience and peers. It brings me so much joy knowing there are those that value my input in the beauty space. Such an honor. 

What advice would you give to other stay-at-home moms or aspiring content creators who want to grow their social media presence?

Be yourself and stay consistent. We all have that special something that will attract people to our content. It takes time but you’ll get there. 

How do you see your role as an influencer evolving in the future? Are there any new projects or platforms you’re excited to explore?

I’m in my “season of YES” so whatever comes my way and aligns with my values, I’m saying YES. So wherever that takes me, I’m along for the ride! There’s always dreams and goals that I keep close to my heart. 

Finally, what message would you like to share with your followers and the broader community about balancing family life and pursuing your passions?

At the end of the day, it’s remembering your “why”. Having people around you that support your dreams and aspirations, but also keep you grounded is key. Being an example to my children that you can have a family and chase big dreams is a big goal for me – especially for my daughter. Remember to never put yourself in a box…the sky is truly the limit!
