Looking for something to do that will entertain the whole family? Cirque du Soleil’s show OVO is the answer for you!

This isn’t your traditional circus with a ringleader, taming of lions, and clumsy clowns. It’s a production with out-of-this-world acrobats, stunning visual effects, live music and stellar costumes. The story comes to life and transports viewers to a new world.

If this sounds like something you and the family would be interested in (and it should be), Cirque du Soleil will be touring Texas from late September to early October with its show, OVO.

Life Beneath Our Feet

OVO, which means “egg” in Portuguese, takes you into the fascinating world of an insect colony. From crickets and butterflies to ants and spiders, this show delights and amazes while giving a peek into the busy, community-driven lives of insects. Prepare to be captivated and leave with a whole new appreciation for the tiny creatures working right underneath us.

Back Like Never Before

Since its debut in 2009, OVO has become a fan favorite, even hitting arenas after its early success. Like many shows, it had to take a pause during the pandemic, but now it’s back and bigger than ever. The production has been refreshed with eye-catching visual effects, larger-than-life sets, and brand-new costumes and music. At the same time, it keeps all the magic and charm that made audiences fall in love with it in the first place, with an extra spark to keep things exciting.

Not Your Average Show

This isn’t your average production. With more than 50 world-class acrobats, musicians, and performers, you can expect the unexpected. Without giving too much away, some of the acts include foot-juggling, aerial stunts, contortion, and more. After seeing these incredible scenes, you’ll be left wondering how it’s even possible to move the human body that way. It’s the kind of show that leaves both kids and adults amazed long after the final bow.

The Art Behind the Costumes

Although Cirque du Soleil is known for its world-renowned acrobats, costumes play a huge role in bringing the story to life, especially in OVO. Since the storyline centers on the world of insects and movement, the garments were designed to impersonate rather than simply imitate.

Costume designer Liz Vandal worked closely with the team to ensure each piece had fluidity, vibrant color, and a lifelike appearance, all while maintaining the flexibility performers need. With countless hours dedicated to their creation, audiences can truly see and appreciate the artistry and detail woven into every costume.

An Immersive Insect Experience

Another key part of the production is the music and set design. The music is performed live throughout the show and shifts to match what’s happening on stage, with musicians, singers, and sound staff working closely together to stay in sync.

The stage design creates a stylized habitat for insects. It features a 63-foot climbing wall, a 27-foot egg, and an acrobatic structure that rises 45 feet above the stage. From the soaring acrobatics to the live music, every element comes together to immerse you in the vibrant life of an insect.
