Austin shows up for live music, but last Thursday night at the Moody Center was next level.
Lainey Wilson rolled into town on her Whirlwind World Tour and turned the arena into a celebration of country music’s past, present, and future. With cowboy hats bobbing from the pit all the way up to the rafters, it was clear from the jump that the sold-out crowd was there to see one of country’s brightest stars.

Before Lainey hit the stage, the night got off to a strong start with Drake Milligan and Muscadine Bloodline. Milligan, often compared to a young Elvis for his classic country swagger and rockabilly edge, delivered a set that felt both nostalgic and fresh. His voice has that rich, timeless quality that makes you sit up a little straighter, and songs like “Sounds Like Something I’d Do” had fans clapping along early in the night.

Drake will be back in Texas in November with stops in Lubbock (Nov. 19), followed by Fort Worth (Nov. 28) and Houston (Nov. 29). If you have a chance to see Drake live, I highly recommend it.

Muscadine Bloodline followed with a burst of Southern energy. The duo from Alabama leaned into harmonies that carried across the arena with ease, pulling from both rowdy anthems and heartfelt ballads.

They have a loyal following of their own, and it showed in how the crowd sang along with them. By the time their set wrapped, you could tell the audience wasn’t just warmed up, they were primed for the main event.

When the lights dropped and the first notes hit, the Moody Center roared. Coming up from the stage in front of a giant horseshoe, bathed in a spotlight, Lainey made her grand entrance. She started her set with “Whirlwind,” the title track of her new album. Though many of the songs she performed were from her new album, she also mixed in fan favorites like “Things a Man Ought to Know,” “Wildflowers and Wildhorses,” and “4x4xU.”

Wilson has built her career on authenticity, and you could feel that in every song. She’s a performer who doesn’t just sing to her fans, she connects with them. Between tracks, she took moments to talk to the crowd, sharing stories about Louisiana small-town roots, chasing dreams, and the ups and downs along the way.

She even took the time to crown one of her young fans the “Cowgirl of the Night,” and told her that she can do anything before giving her a cowboy hat.

By the time the last notes of “Heart Like a Truck” echoed through the Moody Center, it was obvious why Lainey Wilson is more than just a rising star. From heartfelt storytelling to arena-sized sing-alongs, she gave Austin a night that balanced grit and grace in equal measure. Drake Milligan and Muscadine Bloodline set the tone with their own unforgettable performances, but it was Lainey’s authenticity and connection that turned the evening into something fans will be talking about long after the lights came up.
