Ahoy, all lovers of luscious seafood. Net yourself a berth now in northwest Austin!

Omaha-based Flagship Restaurant Group, the brand behind seven dining and cocktail concepts across the Midwest, South and Southwest, opened Plank Seafood Provisions at The Domain in Austin this spring. Like us, you might be sitting in the nautically-themed restaurant wondering what was there before. Turns out, they took over the space from Sur La Table, transforming it into a delightful dining space.

Sustainable Seafood

Plank Seafood Provisions is a coastal-inspired oyster bar and seafood grill, that pays homage to the ocean and the founders’ passion for deep sea fishing. We are impressed by their Conscious Earth initiative, responsible sourcing within the restaurant industry through their sustainable seafood program. On the right side of the Plank menu, they list where each of their seafood and meat selections hail from. The Atlantic salmon comes from the Faroe Islands (which we visited on our Windstar Cruise in 2019), the calamari (squid) comes from their US Atlantic Ocean wild-caught sources, and their soft shell crab comes from Chesapeake Bay. It’s great to know exactly where your food comes from, especially knowing that it’s sourced in an environmentally friendly way.

At Plank Seafood Provisions, you’ll find that dash of sea-life luster with coastal character you’ve been looking for. Enjoy fresh, high-quality and sustainably sourced seafood and oysters, craft cocktails and extensive wine list. Stay for the Seafood Tower of your dreams, a Sea Foam Margarita and an unforgettable fish dish.

Cast Off!

Diners are met with an elevated yet whimsical setting at this open kitchen concept. It is complete with a full raw bar and wood-fired grill, wooden boat-shaped sculptures suspended from the ceiling, wood paneled walls with artwork representative of the sea, modern light fixtures with nautical rope accents and orange and royal blue booths. Communal tables align with the restaurant’s sharable dining theme and a four seasons patio that’s greenhouse-inspired and has retractable garage-style doors for both indoor and outdoor seating.

Notable Flavors

Expect a variety of creative dishes throughout Plank’s menus, including extravagant seafood towers from the raw bar, Thai Clam Chowder, Chowder Fries, Crispy Crab Boil Turkey Necks with creole wing sauce and chive and other creative plays on seafood fare. We enjoyed the Caprese Salad to start, with an uber unique take on the often-seen menu item. The Smoked Fish Toast was a surprising stack of full flavor. Our favorite Plank Plate was the bacon-wrapped shrimp with jalapeno, aged cheddar and dirty grits.

Craft Cocktails, Extensive Wine List

The bar scene is on point at Plank with an array of cocktails like the Island Hopper, made with Bombay Sapphire gin, or the craft beer selection, including Pint House Pizza’s (Round Rock) Electric Jellyfish Hazy IPA. The wine list is global, with the likes of a delicious Waterford chardonnay from South Africa.

Flagship Restaurant Group will soon be opening Blue Sushi Sake Grill, also at The Domain. We’ll bring you more on that in an upcoming article.
