Hutto Wine Bar offers a cozy yet stylish space where guests can slow down, sip something new, and feel right at home.

The vision for Hutto’s first wine bar comes from owner Meg Hiney, a longtime Hutto resident whose passion for wine grew from sharing meaningful moments with family and friends. She’s turned that passion into a welcoming destination that not only introduces guests to unique, thoughtfully selected wines, but also creates a space where community, conversation, and connection take center stage.

What sparked your interest in wine and inspired you to open Hutto’s very first wine bar?

My dad and I shared a love of wine and that love extended to my husband after we got married. So when my husband and I moved to Hutto in 2011, we always wanted a wine bar to be able to go to enjoy a nice glass. About five years ago a chance meeting led to finding the building in Downtown Hutto and the rest is history!

For someone walking into Hutto Wine Bar for the first time, what kind of experience do you hope they have and what makes the experience at Hutto Wine Bar unique compared to other wine spots around Central Texas?

I want everyone that walks into HWB to think “Wow, this is totally a place I could sit for a few hours and just relax.” I designed the place to be a lot of “Meg” but in a way that you feel like you belong here, too. Being the first wine bar in Hutto definitely helps us stand out but that atmosphere either inside or out on the patio does a lot to make you remember us.

Your wine list highlights wines created and produced by women. What inspired you to spotlight women in the wine industry?

Before opening HWB I worked in software management in a few different industries, and typically the teams and management were the same: ten men at a table with two women. The high percent of men in ownership and winemaking positions is absolutely the same, so I use HWB as a platform to highlight and showcase what women are doing in a typically male-dominated wine world.

You’ve built a space that celebrates women in wine. What’s one story of a winemaker or wine on your menu that really inspires you?

Giovanna Neri, Owner and Winemaker at Col di Lamo, is the daughter of a winemaker and vineyard owner in Italy that went out on her own and bought property near her father’s to start her own wine house and begin creating her own Montalcino. I relate to and respect her drive to go out on her own and be creative in a way that follows her own vision. And the best part is her daughter is now next to her and they are running Col di Lamo together.

Do you have a favorite wine on the menu right now, or a bottle you especially love introducing to guests who may be newer to wine?

I get asked what my favorite wine is on the menu a lot and it is like choosing my favorite daughter! With that said, I have been pouring quite a bit of the BloodRoot Sauvignon Blanc for myself. It’s citrusy, tart and very refreshing on a warm afternoon.

What kinds of events or gatherings do you enjoy hosting at Hutto Wine Bar, and are there any exciting ones coming up?

I partner with a lot of local businesses that are either home-based or non-profit and love having them in HWB. We do wine pairing events, wine dinners, monthly bingo and a monthly book swap which are great ways to get out of the house and come meet your neighbors!

All events can be found on our website www.huttowinebar.com
