The iconic, blue-domed churches of Santorini, Greece, have long been recognized as one of the most romantic destinations, drawing millions of travelers from around the world to gather on Oia’s charming walkways for that perfect photo.
Because of the island’s captivating charm, expectations are high—and often unmet—when it comes to finding the right accommodations for this sought-after retreat. However, with its exceptional service, unmatched amenities, stunning gastronomy, and prime location, Andronis Arcadia has crafted its own enchanting atmosphere that is both unique and authentically Greek, enhancing this idyllic island escape.

An Escape Into Serenity
Nestled on a hillside overlooking the Aegean Sea, just a few cobblestones from the heart of Oia, Andronis Arcadia radiates a charm reflecting the natural beauty of Santorini. The spacious property feels like a stroll through a peaceful village, with lush gardens bursting with red, white, and purple blooms, and vibrant green succulents lining the path, creating a lively, natural landscape that relaxes with every step. The suites are low, square buildings, similar to most of Oia’s historic structures. They are never too tall to overshadow the entire walkway, allowing some of the white buildings to shine brightly under the Mediterranean sun while other sandstone structures blend seamlessly into the surrounding chaparral landscape. This contrast immerses guests and visitors in two sides of Oia’s charm, from the natural scenery to the famous historic village.

Using a modern minimalist style that pays homage to Oia’s blue dome hillside, Andronis Arcadia incorporates neutral earth tones and natural textures, such as sandstone, terracotta, untreated wood, and granite, to create a raw and welcoming authenticity that contrasts with the bustling walkways of Oia. It is the perfect serene escape after a day of banter and noise and waiting in lines for the self-indulgent selfies we’re all guilty of, a genuine best-of-both-worlds scenario.

A few other notable features distinguish Andronis Arcadia as a top-tier destination hotel, not only among Santorini’s many options but also within its peer group. Andronis Arcadia has the largest infinity pool on the island, offering one of the most lively and spacious resort pools for fun or relaxation. Arcadia is also the only Andronis property with a conference center, strengthening its role not just as a romantic retreat for couples or a fun family getaway, but also as a corporate retreat set in one of the most scenic locations. Their onsite spa, Evexia Spa, also stands out as a premier spa, where innovative techniques and traditional practices combine for personalized treatments. One of the most innovative treatments is the Kneipp Path, a signature water therapy experience featuring two L-shaped pools, no deeper than three and a half feet—one a brisk cold plunge walk and the other hot—designed to stimulate reflexology and relaxation.

Unrivaled Accommodations
Each suite at Andronis Arcadia embodies naturalist minimalism with raw materials and clean lines. When I entered my room, I was greeted by a calming palette of earth tones, now enhanced by river stone accents in the bathroom vanity and shower. The spacious jacuzzi tub provides another tranquil retreat in an already captivating space, boosting the sense of peace during this Greek island escape.

In the main suite, subtle lighting accents add depth to an already spacious room, with a large king-size bed at its center, bathed in a mystifying blue-hued view of the Aegean sky. The space is ample, offering a moment of pause. I used this time to unwind after a bumpy ferry ride, uncorked a bottle of white wine, and indulged in the sweet, white flesh of local pears and peaches. After a few bites and sips, I moved to the outdoor space.

A sliding door opened to reveal a private infinity pool, where natural minimalism seamlessly connected the two spaces, providing a smooth transition from the cozy indoor living area to the expansive chaparral landscape that stretched far beyond the property, all the way to the stunning Aegean Sea. I highly recommend setting aside a day to relax here, away from the busy streets of Oia, and enjoy the peaceful serenity of Andronis Arcadia’s thoughtful design.

Where Service Doesn’t Sleep
Since opening in 2019, Andronis Arcadia has established itself as the benchmark for service in one of the most competitive and crowded hospitality markets. From winning a Michelin Key, one of the highest regarded commendations in hospitality, to accolades from Forbes and other leading tourism boards, Andronis Arcadia continues to redefine the standard of service. And from personal experience, the team hasn’t slept on these previous achievements.

I realized early in my trip that I had left my laptop charger at home. While the historic village of Oia offers a picturesque setting filled with cafes, restaurants, and shops, I couldn’t find a place selling a compatible charging block for my Dell. I stopped by the office to ask where to go next, and honestly, I didn’t expect a solution, which would have given me more reason to do nothing but drink fine wine while taking in the views of the Aegean Sea. However, the office staff was on it, first finding a 65-watt cord to connect to the USB outlets in the hotel, which provided enough power to charge my computer while it rested. Knowing it wouldn’t be enough to keep it charged while I worked, the team located an electronics store in Fira, the nearby capital known for its vibrant nightlife. Using WhatsApp, they kept in touch, trying to find the suitable tech I needed. Ultimately, there wasn’t anything on the island, but the team showed the lengths they would go for the guest experience.

Pacman: A Nourishment for All Senses
It’s widely known that Pacman may be the best dinner experience on Santorini. The staff knows it. Locals know it. Guests from other properties know it, too, as many of them are seen walking down the slope to the restaurant, brimming with excitement and dressed to impress as they anxiously anticipate the experience ahead.

And it’s true. With its boho-chic atmosphere, mood-setting music, and unmatched views of the Aegean sunset, all Pacman needs is for the food to be “ok.” But service doesn’t sleep at Andronis Arcadia, and so, the food is more than okay. It’s as breathtaking as the views that accompany it. The highly-anticipated dinner experience alone makes the trip to this part of the Cyclades worthwhile. From linguine topped with a generous serving of lobster shipped from the prestigious shores of Boston to a fresh catch of the day, deboned tableside for your enjoyment, and an inventive take on a Greek favorite, Baba, a light and airy yeast cake topped with brûléed Italian meringue, Pacman’s gastronomy elevates Andronis Arcadia’s Michelin Key experience with a culinary extravaganza.

It was a great pleasure to find that dinner at Pacman was only part of the culinary experience, as every stay at Arcadia includes breakfast, allowing each morning to begin with a variety of fresh options. Savory dishes, such as the Truffle Toast with local eggs or the Salmon Benedict, are hearty and set the tone for a day of exploring the streets of Oia. Oranges and grapefruits are pressed daily, providing a refreshing burst of flavor. It also adds a touch of nourishment to each mimosa. The breadbasket, featuring house-made artisan breads and jams, is not to be overlooked, as its rustic presentation and lingering notes of butter and warmth leave a lasting impression.

An Honest Take on Oia
The blue-domed churches of Oia are among the most popular destinations for any travel enthusiast. From ambitious content creators to couples who have spent their hard-earned money on a romantic trip, those blue domes standing out against a lime-washed backdrop attract millions of visitors during a short summer period. The turnout can be overwhelming, and as a result, it may lead to an underwhelming experience for some on a long-anticipated trip.

Therefore, approach Oia with patience and an open mind. Some small walkways deliver exactly what you’re looking for, and those are often marked by a line of tourists chasing that Instagram moment. But take the time to explore each walkway, corner, or awning and return in the morning around seven, before the crowds arrive. Offer to take someone else’s photo, and the favor will be returned. Consider the shoulder months of May or September, which still see a high turnout, but considerably less than from June to August.

I reminded myself that those blue domes hold religious significance and are more than just props in the background. Standing in line on a cool morning with a camera in hand, I had a moment of quiet reflection. I thought about the past and present, about how many portrait seekers have waited on these rounded steps worn smoothly by decades of standing. It was a spiritual journey to get here, from the streets of Dallas to the cobblestone walkways of Santorini. And as I looked at those blue domes crowned with a cross, I was grateful.
