A stylish waterfront stay in the heart of Auckland blends bold design, harbor views, and sophisticated luxury with easy access to the city’s best attractions.

Having already fallen in love with the QT hotel brand after stays at QT Sydney and QT Gold Coast, I was looking forward to experiencing QT Auckland. I quickly realized that each property has its own personality. QT Auckland feels like the most sophisticated sibling of the family.

We stepped off the street through what almost felt like the entrance to a hidden speakeasy. The low lighting, dramatic artwork, and rich interior design immediately created a mood that was elegant without feeling pretentious. While I found QT Gold Coast to have a brighter, family-friendly vibe and QT Sydney to be energetic and buzzing with activity, QT Auckland struck the perfect balance of luxury and relaxation.

We were fortunate to receive an upgrade to a beautiful fifth-floor corner suite overlooking Viaduct Harbour. The suite felt more like an upscale apartment than a traditional hotel room. It featured a spacious king bedroom, an exceptionally large bathroom with one of the biggest walk-in showers I’ve seen, a separate living room and kitchenette, plus a convenient half bath.

My favorite part, however, was the view. From our corner windows, I could watch sailboats gently moving across the harbor during the day and be mesmerized by the twinkling lights at night. I felt encouraged to slow down and simply enjoy the moment.

Out and About

One of QT Auckland’s greatest strengths is its location. Sitting right in the heart of downtown, we found it incredibly easy to explore the city entirely on foot. In about ten minutes, we could stroll down to the Harbour, where dozens of waterfront restaurants, cafés, and bars create one of Auckland’s liveliest gathering scenes. The ferry terminal is also nearby, making it convenient for day trips.

One excursion I highly recommend is taking the ferry to Waiheke Island. Just a 40-minute ride away, the island offers beautiful beaches, boutique shopping, charming villages, local wineries, and plenty of waterfront restaurants. It’s an easy day trip that gives visitors a completely different perspective of the Auckland region.

QT Auckland makes sustainable travel simple with a housekeeping program that rewards guests for choosing to skip daily room service. Photo courtesy QT Auckland

One thoughtful feature that really stood out during our stay was QT’s environmentally friendly housekeeping program. Guests can simply hang a door tag requesting that housekeeping skip their room for the day. In return, the hotel credits $10 to your bill for each day you choose not to have your room serviced. I love this concept because it’s a win for everyone—you reduce unnecessary laundry and cleaning, the hotel saves valuable staff time, and guests receive a small reward for making an environmentally conscious choice.

QT Auckland combines bold design, luxurious accommodations, an unbeatable downtown location, and thoughtful touches that make a stay feel both indulgent and relaxing. This stylish waterfront hotel provides an ideal home base for experiencing everything Auckland has to offer.
