How I’m Packing for a Month Overseas in Just a Carry-On: Travel Essentials That Make It Possible

I’ve been packing in only a carry-on and a backpack for all my trips since 2017 when I was able to do it successfully on a one-week trip to Ireland. But this is different. Way different. Now I’m packing for an entire month, where it’s winter and I’ll need bulkier clothes (like jackets and sweaters and boots). Daunting, yes. Doable, yes. Here’s a few items making this challenge a reality.

The Talia Pant & Echo Shirt from Spiritual Gangster

For travelers heading somewhere coastal, the Talia Pant and Echo Shirt from Spiritual Gangster bring an elevated ease to any carry-on lineup. Crafted from a lightweight linen blend with delicate embroidery and detailing, both pieces are designed to work as a set or stand alone. The flowy silhouette of the pants and relaxed button-down shirt make them ideal for layering over swimwear or styling for an effortless dinner by the water. The Talia Pant: $168 & The Echo Shirt: $168

Avara Carry-On Ready Travel Styles

Avara’s collection is designed for effortless packing and polished travel moments. I love that these pieces can be layered with long sleeves when it’s cooler or perfect alone during a warmer day. The Tammy Yellow Gauze Top offers a lightweight, breathable layer perfect for sun-filled exploring, while the Harriet Blue Floral Printed Midi Dress delivers an easy, feminine silhouette that transitions seamlessly from daytime wandering to evening dinner plans.

The Adelaide Green Puff Sleeve Top adds a refined pop of color with relaxed ease, and the Erica Green Striped Short Dress brings a playful, breezy feel ideal for laid-back vacation days. Each piece is made to move effortlessly from carry-on to destination wardrobe.
